Page one 'news'

Posted By on Mon, Mar 19, 2007 at 8:47 AM

A credulous Florida newspaper reporter drinks Democrat-Gazette publisher Walter Hussman's Kool-Aid and that's good enough for Page One in the Monday Democrat-Gazette. The St. Petersburg article reprinted there contains no news and lacks plenty of context, but the story selection and placement were meant to advance the publisher's ideology on teacher pay bonuses, no more and no less. Let Frank explain this one in one of those how-we-newspaper columns. It won't take 750 words if he's honest about it.

Here's a link to the story where it originally appeared.

(For another Frank column: How that review of Betsy Jacoway's  revisionist -- and often contradictory-- history of the LR school crisis wound up in hands of a friendly colleague and merited such expansive treatment. Surely the Ashmore bad/Faubus not so bad theme didn't have anything to do with it, did it Editor Smith?)
