In news today, Dr. Trent Pierce, the West Memphis bombing victim, took the stand today as a witness against the accused bombing mastermind, Dr. Randeep Mann.

KATV 7 reported a 5 that the PCSSD had held a closed door meeting with attorneys to discuss future contracts with the teachers. This meeting did not deal with individual teachers but the whole group. Somebody needs to check but I don't think attorneys and the school board are allowed to meet behind closed doors.
Also, speaking of sunshine, the Security and Exchange Commission is claiming the new financial reform act provides for the SEC to avoid FOIA request.

I saw the mention of the former 24 hour coffee shop in the Marion Hotel on the Browning's thread. Been searching out 24 hour outfits, especially those that serve breakfast around the state. Still think something's criminally wrong in the fact that Fort Smith has three locally owned 24 hour joints yet the only places you can get yourself a cuppa joe and a short stack overnight in Central Arkansas are chain operations. I could be wrong -- gawd, hope I am -- and if I am, please correct me. I'm still searching.
Speaking of closings (ie, Brownings) if you have never drove down to Greenville on the old bridge, this weekend will likely be the last time it will be opened. Due to rain the past few days, the actual opening of the new Greenville Bridge will be next week.

Anyone else get a mailer today that included the following: "Join us at EnergyCitizens.org to learn more about our efforts to support the Gulf, protect American jobs and secure our energy future"? They are sponsored by API, aka the American Petroleum Institute, aka a lobbying group wanting to keep America on fossil fuels until we are completely bankrupt.
In the biggest type it says: "We're committed to Today" and "We're Preparing for Tomorrow". Boys and girls of the petroleum crowd, you wasted your dime on me. I want to get America weaned off our addiction to fossil fuels as soon as possible. We have more than enough sunlight, wind and other solar power sources to supply way more power than is consumed and will be consumed in the good old U.S.A.
There is also a Nuclear Energy Institute. The current definition of 'institute' seems to be 'lobbyist'. Oh, by the way, this is from Monday's New York Times: "Nuclear Energy Loses Cost Advantage"

Fossil fuel and nuclear plants are so 19th and 20th century. Let's rebuild the American economy in an energy efficient, healthy way, not continue to spew our toxic waste into the water we drink and the air we breathe.

PHB relays a clip compiled from Right Wing Watch of Huckabee interviewing Tim LaHaye (co-author of the "Left Behind" novels).
