In news today, Dr. Trent Pierce, the West Memphis bombing victim, took the stand today as a witness against the accused bombing mastermind, Dr. Randeep Mann.

KATV 7 reported a 5 that the PCSSD had held a closed door meeting with attorneys to discuss future contracts with the teachers. This meeting did not deal with individual teachers but the whole group. Somebody needs to check but I don't think attorneys and the school board are allowed to meet behind closed doors.
Also, speaking of sunshine, the Security and Exchange Commission is claiming the new financial reform act provides for the SEC to avoid FOIA request.

I know it was unintentional, but "Here's looking at you" might not be the best thing to post before discussing Dr. Pierce.

I saw the mention of the former 24 hour coffee shop in the Marion Hotel on the Browning's thread. Been searching out 24 hour outfits, especially those that serve breakfast around the state. Still think something's criminally wrong in the fact that Fort Smith has three locally owned 24 hour joints yet the only places you can get yourself a cuppa joe and a short stack overnight in Central Arkansas are chain operations. I could be wrong -- gawd, hope I am -- and if I am, please correct me. I'm still searching.
Speaking of closings (ie, Brownings) if you have never drove down to Greenville on the old bridge, this weekend will likely be the last time it will be opened. Due to rain the past few days, the actual opening of the new Greenville Bridge will be next week.

Anyone else get a mailer today that included the following: "Join us at EnergyCitizens.org to learn more about our efforts to support the Gulf, protect American jobs and secure our energy future"? They are sponsored by API, aka the American Petroleum Institute, aka a lobbying group wanting to keep America on fossil fuels until we are completely bankrupt.
In the biggest type it says: "We're committed to Today" and "We're Preparing for Tomorrow". Boys and girls of the petroleum crowd, you wasted your dime on me. I want to get America weaned off our addiction to fossil fuels as soon as possible. We have more than enough sunlight, wind and other solar power sources to supply way more power than is consumed and will be consumed in the good old U.S.A.
There is also a Nuclear Energy Institute. The current definition of 'institute' seems to be 'lobbyist'. Oh, by the way, this is from Monday's New York Times: "Nuclear Energy Loses Cost Advantage"
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/27/business…
Fossil fuel and nuclear plants are so 19th and 20th century. Let's rebuild the American economy in an energy efficient, healthy way, not continue to spew our toxic waste into the water we drink and the air we breathe.

Via the LGBT blog, "Pam's House Blend" is a post about Mike Huckabee's new daytime talk show on a few FOX owned-and-operated local stations. PHB relays a clip compiled from Right Wing Watch of Huckabee interviewing Tim LaHaye (co-author of the "Left Behind" novels). Needless to say, Ol' Brother Tim thinks that Obama is a socialist! and helping to lead us to the Apocalypse!

Nice job, BIG Max, of not giving any mention whatsoever to the impending ethics trial of tax-cheat Charlie Rangel. I guess it's ok since he's a Liberal and a Democrat. Yeah, Max, ethics are really important to you unless it's a Liberal and a Democrat. Nice. Very nice.
Thanks, LinCo_Progressive. Maybe LaHaye should calm down.
It's a lesson I learned decades ago when, as a twentysomething, I was convinced that Ronald(6) Wilson(6) Reagan(6) was going to take us over the edge.

Miss FBL, Max owns and operates the blog. If you don't like the way he chooses to post then start your own blog with your own time and money. I'm sure your rants will draw 8 other crazies a day.
Since this seems to be an open line . . . I found these interesting
". . . Despite a tough year for President Obama, the public believes his administration's policies offer a better chance at improving the economy over the policies of his predecessor, former President George W. Bush.
Regarding the tax cuts, 30 percent of Americans believe all of Bush's 2001 and 2003 cuts should stay in place. That compared to 31 percent who believed that all of them should be repealed. Twenty-seven percent take the route Obama campaigned on: Tax cuts for the wealthy should be repealed, while the others should stay in place. . . ."
This should either cause a troll silence or swarm. Prognostication or bets on which are now open.
Another fun article to tweak Imhofe and the trolls' probosci.
". . . a new survey out this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (those liberal lyin' liars).
The study found that 97 percent of scientific experts agree that climate change is "very likely" caused mainly by human activity.
The report is based on questions posed to 1,372 scientists. Nearly all the experts agreed that it is 'very likely that anthropogenic greenhouse gases have been responsible for most of the unequivocal warming of the Earth's average global temperature in the second half of the twentieth century.' . . ."
