Congressional antics

Gridlock in D.C.

Republicans are filibustering a tax-cut bill meant to spur job creation. They want to pile on some non-germane hot button stuff.

Last night, House Republicans hid behind specious procedural excuses to defeat a bill to provide benefits for rescue workers harmed in 9/11 work. Anthony Weiner went bonkers. Good video at the link.

How exactly can Wepublicans "hide behind procedural excuses to defeat a bill" when they control NOTHING in the House? Dems set the rules and schedule votes, they are in the position to really play with the procedural rules, the House leaves absolutely NO power for the minority. The senate still has the fillibuster true, but to me it sounds like typical big lib whining why poor dems cai'nt git nuttin' dun in da house cuz o dem mean ole waskily wepublicans.

Actually dems have a great strategy. Tell the public they are for everything, but do nothing and blame it on the wepublicans as to why they can't get anything done. Even though they are in big majorities. As the Nazis said, just keep telling big lies and the people will believe it.

Now I thought Republicans were all about tax cuts.
Hmmmm........................

A great way to spur jobs is to invest in clean energy. I wish Greens were in power instead of these spineless sold-out Dems. ::sigh::

Where is an Arkansas Anthony Weiner when we need him? Anyone smart enough to find the AT Blog and post a comment is smart enough to understand what the Republicans are doing on all fronts. Denying benefits to 9-11 workers.......tell me again how horrible Osama is and the difference between him and a Republican?

Democrats control the House 100%, all they would have to do is schedule a floor vote with no amendments. Then with their numbers it would pass easily. But I guess if a monkey in outer Mongolia slips on a bannana peel, its a Wepublican's fault.

Damn. I never thought I'd say this but I LIKE WEINER. (not that there's anything wrong with that) That guy may be my new hero. That's the kind of attitude all Dems need to embrace, instead of their previous (and current) candyass ways.

I liked Weiner when I heard Bill Maher ask him if he wasn't afraid he'd piss off his constituents with some of his plain speaking and he answered 'I have a constituency?'...and then kept on with his common-sense thoughts.

But he's too enlightened/forward-thinking to get elected by our state's yahoos. If you're not willing to hump every preacher in the state/spout illiterate nonsense about a 5,000-year-old earth...it's hard to get elected anywhere outside LR. (Yes, the last few elections have made me a little bit negative toward my fellow Arkansans.)

Evidently the Republican base is so filled with hatred for everyone who's not them, especially that black guy in their White House, that their elected ones don't have to do anything other than fight EVERYTHING reasonable/sane and progressive.

Again Max does not tell the truth. The 9/11 bill could have passed by a simple majority vote but the Dems. did not allow it. They instead required a two-thirds majority vote for approval - so as to prevent the Republicans a chance to attach amendments to the bill.

Obama didn't even back the bill because it was a spending mandate instead of discretionary.

"The 9/11 bill could have passed by a simple majority vote but the Dems. did not allow it. They instead required a two-thirds majority vote for approval - so as to prevent the Republicans a chance to attach amendments to the bill. "

That is because the R's wanted to add bullshit amendments and did not like how the bill is paid for...taxing income of corporations on money they make in the US but are based somewhere else.
IF the R's really cared about the 9/11rescue workers they would have voted for the damn bill.
But they don't so they didn't.
They can scream about "procedure" all they want, but if they wanted to help those people they could have voted yes.

The party of NO strikes again.

>>GOP critics branded the bill as yet another big-government "massive new entitlement program" that would have increased taxes and possibly kill jobs.

To pay the bill's estimated $7.4 billion cost over 10 years, the legislation would have prevented foreign multinational corporations incorporated in tax haven countries from avoiding tax on income earned in the U.S.<< Nuff Said. Republicans support tax evasion.
