That re-creation of a medieval castle under construction in the Ozarks as a tourist attraction is the subject of a feature in today's New York Times travel section.

It so happens that the project in France on which the Arkansas castle is modeled is also featured in the Times today.

The Arkansas castle website, with visitor information, is here.

My friend Melinda LaFevers, who as an arts in education specialist has been presenting a class on a day in the life of a medieval castle for many years, has signed on as an interpreter and educator at the Ozarks castle. If you have a school or group interested in the Middle Ages, she is a GREAT resource.

Twelve effin' dollars? If I were up in that neighborhood. I could get a sandwich at Sparky's or a tiny appetizer at Ermilio's. Over 20 years, that castle better be free to the publicans, or no one will care.

12 bucks isn't that bad. Admission to just about anything anymore is 12 bucks. I can't wait to go visit it.

My husband and I went this spring and it is amazing what they are doing. Everything that is needed for building had to be made by hand.....need a knife? Go to the blacksmith shop and tell him what you need. He makes it. The potter is having to make the firebrick for a kiln and at this time he is firing stuff in what is nothing but a campfire. It will take him months to make enough bricks for the first kiln. He will have to make ALL the tiles that will be needed for the roof when it is done. We can't wait to go back next spring to see the differences. It is totally worth the admission and don't even consider not paying the dollar for the guide.
