UA governance

Posted by Max Brantley on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 10:32 AM

The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees voted by phone today to endorse the plan to increase required donations for preferred seats at Razorback football games.

In that the plan had already been approved by the Razorback Foundation and announced by the athletic department ....

I'd again note that public employees' toil in creating this cash flow for the Foundation would seem to mean that Razorback Foundation records should be open to public inspection.

This is also pretty good evidence that the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy can be safely repealed. If there's enough disposable income to raise ticket prices for a silly game to this level, then there's enough disposable income to start paying off these wars we are in.

Gouge 'em, UA, gouge 'em. Keep gouging 'em until you hit the resistance point then lower to cost of buying the right to buy a ticket by $5.

Hey, a few years ago, 10 guys in my office went together and pitched in money to buy Razorback tickets and make donations to the Athletic Department. We are now up to 150 guys. Our buying power has really improved. But, we aren't going to tell you who the 150 guys are. What's the difference?

Ticket Scalping is ticket scalping. Shouldn’t matter if the law-breaker is a yahoo standing outside the stadium or a well-paid employee working in an office where the rich décor is largely red.

Who granted the Foundation an exemption from the law?

The Foundation is the law when it comes to the Razorbacks, silly. Laws only apply to the small people like you and I. Major college sports programs are above the law.

And some of us were worried that the state lottery would soak up money the riffraff should be spending on organic arugula or rent payments to their slumlords. The Razorback Cartel soaks an even bigger pool of saps who could be spending that $3,000 a year on subscriptions to The Economist instead of end-zone seats to watch the hallowed gladiators sweat in return for access to education.
