The Crawford County sheriff's office has apologized to the mother ordered out of a Crawford County courtroom by a bailiff because she was breast feeding.

To late the damage is done. Hope the Sheriff gave the bailiff a letter of reprimand or a good chew otherwise whats to stop a repeat. In the end it's always the woman that.......!
You can't un-ring the bell, but hopefully it's a step in the right direction toward our society's acceptance of this best practice.
In order to appeal to the masses, maybe an approach like this needs to be taken:
What would (did) baby Jesus drink? Enfamil? Similac? I don't think so.
If I'm not mistaken--and maybe I am--the woman was a witness, not just a spectator, and therefore had to be present in the courtroom. If she had to be present, and she happens to be nursing a baby, she should not have to be required to be separated from the baby.
Most anyone else who had to be in the courtroom could eat before or after the proceedings, but a baby needs to eat when she's hungry.
I suppose when the bailiff gave the "all rise" command, the baby should have stood up, too.
It seems to me that these cases of mothers being asked to leave public places while breastfeeding are on the rise. I think it's at least a step in the right direction that the bailiff had to apologize. It may not repair the unjust treatment of this mom, but it may deter the overall situation from happening to another mom and hungry baby. modestmiddles.com
Funny how America has got so good at invasion, kidnapping, and torture, at the same time our population is becoming more modest and easy to offend. You'd think this mother was hiding mosques in her bra!
An apology is better than a poke in the eye, but I hope someone got a good ass chewing over this. I'd feel a lot better if I could see the offending breast....
Okay, I'll take the troglodyte stand. Have you forgotten that Mom can express breast milk and still feed Baby something other than Enfamil?
In the courtroom -- maybe on the witness stand, Hugh? Or maybe during church services? Come on. Seems I've heard one or two of the littlies get a tad noisy during lunch. It's just as distracting as a whimpering baby, maybe more so depending on the venue.
I've dealt with plenty of expressed breast milk, so I haven't forgotten about that. If I'm not mistaken--and maybe I am--the young mother was not on the witness stand when she was asked to leave. If she wanted to make a spectacle of herself and the situation, she could have situated herself front and center in the courtroom and used absolutely no discretion when whipping out a boob. If not, she could have sat in a less conspicuous place and quietly--as quietly as possible--fed her child. I don't know where she was, and I don't know at which point of the proceedings she was asked to leave.
The majority of people don't cotton to my point of view, which is that people needn't freak out about public breastfeeding.
As for church services...I think it would be a shame for a breastfeeding mother to be expected to leave a sanctuary because of the sound her baby makes while feeding. When our son was a breastfeeding baby, we attended a tiny church with an anemic and dwindling congregation. If he made any noises, we got no dirty looks--only smiles, winks, and nods.
I'll just be frank, yet corny here...the children are our future. As a caring mother nurtures her child by providing the very best nutrition and love for her, shouldn't the mother's act be nurtured by society?
Agreed, Hugh Mann. Why is it that doing what God intended is looked down on? She was doing the best thing possible for her child, and everyone should just chill out and get over it. It's a beautiful thing, a bonding moment, a moment of pure love, of selfless giving of oneself to another.
Why do so many hate it? Why do they think it's obscene, or dirty, or whatever they think? Especially since we can see people tortured, maimed and killed any time on TV and in movies. No one seems to be bothered by that, in fact they PAY to see it.
Here's a clue, Orville:
