Instead of grilling, we're going for the big pot of stew that it has been too hot to cook all summer. We call it Wooster Soup and it's a family favorite. It's basically a chicken/vegetable soup whose broth is made brown and tasty by the addition of a great deal of Worcestershire Sauce.

How about Grilling Johnny Blance and Boozyman on why they continue to support the charring of the Arkansas worker? Instead we can just vote John Gray for U.S. Senate...
we already know he won't put the fire to our feet when it comes to taking up for us instead of the Corporatists...like Blance and Booz!

Oh crap, maybe that quote has been just a little bit overused lately.

If you're having a lazy, cool Sunday like I'm enjoying here's some reading several friends have recommended:

"Moral Leadership and the Myth of 'Centrist' Thinking
by George Lakoff

snip-
The conservatives understand the centrality of morality. They attacked the Obama health care plan as immoral for violating the moral principles of freedom ("government takeover") and reverence for life ("death panels.") The Obama administration made a policy case, not a moral case. The conservatives have characterized the bailouts as thievery and Obama's ties to Wall St. as immoral -- as being in bed with the thieves. The attacks on government are seen as moral attacks, with government seen as taking money out of working people's pockets and giving it to people who don't deserve it. Whether it is the birthers, or the anti-Muslims, or the anti-immigrants, of the pro-lifers, the attack is a moral attack. The Tea Party cry is moral -- for "freedom" (see my book Whose Freedom?), for God, for patriotism. Even jobless benefits are seen as giving money to people who are not working and don't deserve it. Even social security that workers have earned, that are deferred payments for work, are seen as undeserving people "sucking on the tits of the government."
...
Why are so many people about to vote against their interests? The Republicans are not offering kitchen-table benefits. When people are voting against their interests, more interest-based arguments don't help.

Thanks for the laugh, eLwood! What a hoot. Pink Puppy, this is for you. Nah, on second thought, it’s for everybody. Happy Labor Day Weekend (or what’s left of it) to one and all:

“On my way to work, I occasionally see a rat. At about 15 feet tall, with a sourpuss snarl, it’s hard to miss. For years, a union local has pumped the rodents—there are actually two, I learned from The New York Times --- full of air and left them squatting in front of buildings owned by managements the union wants to shame. Sometimes, a few union members hand out leaflets explaining their grievances. Other times, the rat appears to work solo. Either way, the sight makes me think how far the American labor movement has fallen.

“It’s a familiar story. In 1983, one in five Americans still belonged to a union. Today, one in eight does --- and the majority work in government rather than private industry. In once heavily unionized Michigan, where in their heyday the auto industry and the United Auto Workers partnered to boost thousands of blue-collar, predominantly male workers into the middle class, the bottom has been falling out for decades.

“It still is. Between 2005 and 2008, median income among men in Michigan fell an astonishing 12 percent. Technological innovation has driven manufacturing productivity to new heights while sending manufacturing employment into a nose dive. And once the nation’s leaders, Democrat and Republican alike, charted the course of globalization, factories that didn’t reduce head count and go high-tech simply went elsewhere --- including under.

“All of which has left Labor Day feeling increasingly like summer’s other bookend, Memorial Day. It has acquired a wistful, elegiac air, its parade steeped in past glory and present anxieties. The rats stay home; labor’s worries are too weighty to be conveyed by cartoon.”

~ Francis Wilkinson writing in The Week magazine

You know why eLwood? because apparently the Dems don't believe in PR or there are no MAD MEN to give them the lines they need to be delivering to the American people DAILY.
What's with rolling over and playing dead? Which is what a lot of them will be come November. Then heaven help us...the entire Congress should A] just go home and let somebody else give it a try or B] I guess we could force them into a room and until they agreed to do the people's business they couldn't come out [ no cell phones, no lobbyists allowed].

Speaking of columns in today's paper, I thought Philip Martin's column on the Mosque controversy was very well written. He says, among other things,--

"The only clear and present danger exposed by this absurd and manufactured controversy about the alleged mosque at Ground Zero is the ever present danger that we'll turn out to be too cowardly to live up to our principles."

If you haven't taken time to read it, be sure to do so.

When the Working Class & The Poor realize we have MORE in common WITH each other than we have in common with the Rich Ruling Elite of EITHER Political Party, reform WILL happen.

Look to Latin America for the blueprint.
The Populist Reforms sweeping across that continent are nothing short of near bloodless revolutions.

They are simply VOTING OUT the Entrenched Oligarchs through Transparent, Verifiable elections.

As long as the Party Leaderships and their tools in the Media can keep the political narrative FRAMED as Democrats vs. Republicans, no change will be possible, and the Power Sharing will continue to be limited to members of The Club (Democrat or Republican).

Oh, NOW I get it.

Suddenly out of Arizona comes unelected unheard-of Gov. Jan Brewer with her anti-illegal immigration bill SB 1070 based on fictional Mexican beheadings and the "explosiong" of illegal immigrants, concepts now spreading to other states.

Except it's all made up.

Illegal immigration is DOWN 67% since 2000. There are and were no beheadings in the Arizona desert. Law enforcement never found any headless bodies. Or heads.

Why, then, has Jan Brewer seemingly lost hers? Why has her campaign retaliated against local CBS journalists who're doing their jobs and investigating her ties to the company that will profit when / if SB1070 is upheld?

Rachael Maddow follows the money.

I've just come up for air after watching 12 hours of college football yesterday, and I do declare that Sept. 4 was a glorious day all around.

I was happy the Hogs had a solid performance. No, I'm not a Razorback fan per se but this is my adopted home state and I take pride when they represent the SEC well.

Speaking of teams that didn't represent the SEC well, let's give a round of boos to Houston Dale Nutt and his Ole Miss Rebels, who lost to Division 1-AA Jacksonville State yesterday. Yep, Dale's team blew a 21-point halftime lead to a team that Ole Miss paid $300,000 to come to Oxford for an "easy'' win.

Of course, I saw the highlights of JSU's thrilling overtime victory and immediately thought of Durango, who is a huge Nutt fan and probably wishes he were still at the UA helm. As I predicted several days ago, Dale has bad karma and the chickens have come home to roost. In this case, they were Gamecocks - as in Jacksonville State Gamecocks. That game will make me smile all season.

(Brief aside to my friend, Tina. Dear, the University of Alabama's mascot happens to be the Fighting Mullets. They and their fans are true rednecks and are coached by a man named Satan. Auburn is the true pride of the State of Alabama and are cheered on by wonderful, intelligent folks).

Speaking of Auburn, I have a new man crush. (Tap, I hope you're not reading this). New QB Cam Newton not only lived up to his hype, but he may have exceeded it. Even ASU Coach Steve Roberts said he was the best player he's witnessed in person. I was in awe of his performance. LR's own Michael Dyer also played a great game. War Damn Eagle! (ASU actually covered the 31-point spread, and I did have the Red Wolves and over the total).

It's now Sunday and I'm trying to figure out how much to put on Boise State tomorrow night. I have quite a cushion with my bookie after yesterday.

I'm thinking about "all in'' but my fiscally conservative side is gnawing at my gut. I may chicken out and only bet half my winnings. I talked to WBW today and she was glad she was in the Middle East - she hates football season and listening to me screaming at the TV set. Oh well, this is the one perk of a lesbian Army wife:)

That's better, NVR! But ya just can't beat bright yeller!

And, Sis, yeah --- ole Houston Dale went down 48-49 to Jacksonville High School in overtime at Oxford after blowing a big halftime lead. Woulda hated to have been at his house last night. But, good for Jack Crowe who 18 years ago today saw Citadel High School come to Fedvul and upset his Hogs 3-10, prompting Frank of the Ozarks to fire him the next day. Always thought young Jack deserved better.

And HDN? He and the Mississippi faithful will get over this. He’ll explain it as divine intervention, lessons learned, etc. And besides, HDN can relate to Crowe; he knows what it’s like to go into an opponent’s home base as a heavy underdog and come out a winnah.

Like in 2007 when he led our beloved Hogs into Death Valley and beat eventual national champ LSU 50-48. And the next year when he took Ole Miss to The Swamp and whipped eventual national champ Florida 31-30, the only coach to beat the Gators that year. And the only coach to beat two eventual national champions in two consecutive years.

Yes, ole Jack Crowe plunged his ‘cocks deeply into the ole missus last night and left her in a lotta pain, but she’ll be up and walkin’ again soon. And ole Houston Dale will, too.

NVR,

I'm glad you understand. I know these "football'' posts are boring to the majority of those who log on to the AT-blog, but I can't help it. Those football fellers dominate most of my attention from September to January. I love 'em and can't get enough of 'em.

And, I knew Durango would come back with the theme from "Annie'' as it relates to Dale and his woeful team...even with Masoli. The Ole Pissers don't have as high of expectations as the Razorback fans and they may be fine with 6-6 or 7-5 seasons. Who knows? Dale may have nude pics of Pete Boone with a prostitute and that's why his loser ass was hired in the first place?

That's not for me to speculate as an Auburn football fan.

But, Durango, our little tiff makes me sort of hot. And, it makes me want to dedicate a song to you. Gosh, I hope Tap is out of town on this holiday weekend.

Glad you had a good Saturday, stj.

Don't fret about dumping me for Cam Newton. My heart will go on, as Celine would say. And I knew this day was coming. I suppose Durango is like unto "Woody" and I, Buzz Lightyear, from Toy Story 3 -- cast aside on the scrap heap of yesterday's playthings. I can't say it was unexpected.

But Cam Newton is something. A little taller and heavier, but perhaps the shape of things to come for the Hogs in the form of Brandon Mitchell.

And 14 carries for Dyer. You're the War Eagle, but I'd still bet you a cold one that he winds up with more touches than any single Hog running back. (Provided all involved stay injury free.)

BTW. You know, don't you, that Houston's Rebs will beat *somebody* this year that they absolutely, positively shouldn't beat. *High* highs and *low* lows -- that's the HDN show. I just hope you and I are shocked, but not saddened, when that occurs. (Wouldn't mind if they knocked off the Fighting Mulletts.)

If my eggs weren't currently rotting as a mid-40s girl, I'd want to have Cameron Newton's child. On top of being the best QB in college football, he's a good-looking man, to boot. Cam has it all. I was smitten last night and I don't know if I can relinquish this crush.

Surely, WBW will understand when I give birth to a baby who looks like Obama when she gets home from war. I'm sure she'll understand:)

If you're gonna set your eggs after a football player, why not Tim Tebow? Then you could tell the whole world what his first time was like.

indeed, Saint Houston will come back and deliver a big upset, maybe even the Mullets, as someone else already suggested. Plus it's not just one show. I'm doing 20 minute five-a-nights starting at 7. So I sometimes blog in between shows.

Anyhoo, I'm glad you asked about the show. Because I'm working on something so exciting, so radical, with Pansy Ho (and studying with Princess Tenko), that I want tryouts away from the public eye in some place like Little Rock.

It's a cutting-edge all-woman concept so I'm thinking I could feature the Blog Girls, or Gals, as I like to call us. If things work out you can stay with the tour, if you like. Show-business money and perks.

Do you -- and Sis-? Cammack? HHW? Mag? Doigotta? Tina? et al. -- have any problem with Vegas-cut leotards and working with tigers?

Deets later.
