John Boozman is a liar

Posted by Max Brantley on Wed, Sep 8, 2010 at 6:28 PM

For the record: The John Boozman-is-a-Razorback ad just aired on Channel 7 at 6:27 p.m. Taken down my ass. Will UA sue, as it would sue a punk with a T-shirt it didn't like?

UPDATE: Seymour Butts reports it's still airing on Channel 11, too. Pants on fire.

(Yeah, I know. They have a new ad scrubbed of the logo and Razorback stadium, but the original kept running through this evening.) Again, I don't care about the Razorback logo. It's the lying I don't like. And the lingering question of how they finagled this in the first place.

To be painfully fair, I used to be in advertising and I know that sometimes you can pull an ad and it runs anyway. That doesn't mean he ISN'T a liar, just that there's a bare possibility he might not be in this case.

Ya must not have believed me earlier today when I said it was still airing on KARK-TV.

not too smart, either, is he?

As I noted earlier, it was on KTHV during the morning show and ran just after a news section that discussed the ad being pulled and then again on the KTHV 9:00 am show and Tom noted afterwards that he thought the ad had been pulled.

It is time for a Blanche ad shot in front of Old Main! And also mention that Boobman didn't have the winning season that he implied per a comment from an earlier posting.

Calm the hell down, Max.

KATV is the official station of the Arkansas Razorbacks. They are obligated to air anything with a Hog in it the week leading up to a Little Rock home game.

Deal with it.

"John Boozman is a liar"

We're just now recognizing this fact?

I saw the ad on the local 6:00 PM news in NWA.

Boozman should be sued by the trademark holder.

Wonder if Boo!Man had permission from Frank Broyles to use his name in the
campaign ad?

I saw the ad today (after 6 pm on channel 11) and it still has the Razorback features.
Come on now, are we really shocked Boozman is lying about something?

Well, if you notice (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=…), it is a "different ad" please see if you can find the Razorback logo anywhere? Nope...but I still do see that Max and the other liberals here (plus the UofA) still doesn't have an issue with Beebe's use of actual current UofA cheerleader and mascot on his official Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=…) in uniform with a Beebe for Governor sticker on...what say you about that??? Max? elwood? Anybody??? Still waiting

Hoooooollllldddd on fellas. I swan. Ya'll sound like a bunch of first graders running to tell the teacher what little Johnny did. Grow up fellas. Now Max, you of all people should know that political ads are cash in advance. The stations have the money in hand and if the ads don't run they gotta credit the agency back. Words and committments are fine till money gets in the way. Besides, your financial nest was feathered for years by campaign cash so please don't start throwing rocks. Also, The only thing more meaningless than sports is religous fervor. Funny that two of the most commented posts on this blog today involved those things. Could we please resist the temptation to swim in the sewer with the cable tv news networks and post on something that really matters? Thanks

Too many "in-the-know" trolls here lately. And research-op types, to boot if you understand.

All I know is that Boozman (FS Northside) got a football scholarship to Arkansas. Never heard anything of him after that. Nada, zero, zip, nothing. Who cares who uses that damn logo?

Point is if we as voters are stupid enough to buy into a short ad extolling this kind of pablum, we are done.

Stick the fork in me.

I watched KARK's news tonight where they talked about it and said they thought it was off. Then not 30 minutes later, during ET (I was at someone else's house, not in control of the remote), there it was. Funny, you'd think the anchors could ASK the production crew if the station had a copy and when it would air again.

It's that sense of entitlement that comes with being a big wig republican in NWA.

Are some of you saying it's OK if the U of A sics a team of lawyers on some "small person" who doesn't know not to use a Razorback copyrighted image or symbol without permission, but it's just fine and dandy for a millionaire politician to use U of A logos like toilet paper if'n they want to? Are you cheer-leading for a double standard? OK for our tax payer supported college to sue the "small people" but not big Republican millionaire cattle owning politicians? Am I understanding you right?

Awww....go ahead Boozer.....use what ya want and lock up after yer done. Does this mean ole Bad Blanche will have ads up showing herself catching the football on the 10 and going in for a touchdown? Go Team! Yay Blanche! And the rest of us can't put up any non-Go Hogs Go banners at our expensive tailgate party at The Gardens off Razorback Road? The taxpayer funded The Gardens?

Ain't this a hell of a world we live in now? Poor folks can't even see a Razorback game in person any more....bless us...we still gots high school sports that's affordable.

Liars.......well boys...that's about all we got. It's Johnny Blanche's world, for the time being we just get to live in it.

Ive still never seen the commercial. Guess I will have to go to youtube, but for some reason my computer hates it.

frank broyles isnt on regular tv much any more. Maybe he doesn't mind the exposure. as in, any publicity is good publicity?

I dont think Facebook, or junior high school stuck online, is the same as a campaign ad. that's where friends get together to visit and stuff. Gov. Beebe can't pretend he isnt the guvner on that dumb thing.

DBI, even if poor folks could see a Razorback game, they'd have to do without food or drink for the duration. i have absolutely no desire to spend any more of my life sitting in football traffic or dealing with the problems with parking, walking up the stadium with ten million people carrying Cokes surrounding me, etc. Home is much better.

we have some nasty-looking lightning out there, and the dogs are in the garage building an ark out of boxes. everyone stay safe, except the trolls. ;) just kidding, right?

It's not the BOOman ad, as much as the hypocrisy of the UA and it's policies. As stated numerous times: PUBLIC university. PUBLIC property. But will the rich get sued? Will the TV stations be sued? Nope, but Joe 6 Pack doesn't stand a chance in hell.

But it shouldn't really matter since it's getting too expensive to buy a ticket any way, and thus Joe has no reason to be in campus anyway.

I'll just sit in my living room with my friends, drinking my cheap beer and the ladies good cooking with my banner on my front porch. Thank you ESPN (as long as you show enough hogs game this year)!

The only thing worse than continuing to run the ad was the DG's explanation of why the Boozeman campaign thought it had approval to show the stadium in the first place. Someone (I think a facilities employee?) said "well I guess the road isn't university property." Seriously?

report
Posted by historian on September 9, 2010 at 11:45 AM

KARK did a story last night about the ad and said Boozeman agreed to take the ad down...even cited a statement from Sarah Huckabee-(insert new last name)about respect for the UA/Razorbacks, blah, blah, blah.

The ad ran in the next block of commercials.

Talk about douche bag politics...I could almost forgive the shameless riding of Frank Broyles Red Razorback Jock but the code speak in regards to Obama, Pelosi and Reid while standing in the middle of a cotton field claiming to support Arkansas values was a bit over the top....
