This breaks my heart. I hope they found higher ground.

Well there goes my happy for the day......

For the sake of my tender sensibilities that makes me ask "does the dog/cat/wolf die?" before I will watch a movie with animals (even cartoons....I'm talking about Futurama; Jurassic Bark) I will just ASSUME that those deer made it to higher ground and did not slowly drown one by one.

Can't sad animal pictures go under a cut or be just a link?

For what it's worth, deer are very strong swimmers. They are known to regularly cross the Arkansas River by choice. They are mortal, so they must be subject to fatigue and drowning eventually, but I'd bet these deer were just fine. Now cows - not so much.

Deer are good, strong swimmers. Much better swimmers than cows, a few of which will be found in Fayetteville's Lake Sequoyah after floods reached into the White River basin and snatched a few. Perhaps a few more in Beaver Lake, the source of NWA's water supply.

Hey, eL, it's all good. Now mouse has heard it from the left and the right. It's gotta true, even without photos or the long-form Game and Fish confirmation.

I seen a big ol' buck thunder down the ridge on the Little Rock side of Murray Lock and Dam, jump right in the Arkansas River above the dam and swim on acrost t'uther side in no time, and that water was high, I'm tellin' ya.
