Southern Baptist Convention hoaxed on gay stance

Posted by on Tue, Jun 28, 2011 at 1:55 PM

The Southern Baptist Convention apparently was the target of an elaborate hoax — complete with phony news releases, a fake website and phones answered by impostors — to make it appear that the denomination had reversed itself and supported gay rights.

The SBC is upset. Imagine, suggesting that they might follow the golden rule in all relationships with queer folk.

I haven't seen that anybody fell for it, of course. Think about it. The Southern Baptist Convention welcome openly gay people? A great hoax needs a germ of believability.

Thanks to Jason Tolbert for the report link.
