Lynch was frequently a progressive voice in a space not distinguished by many. Maybe they'll balance the loss by dropping one of the right-wing cranks. You think?
Lynch will still fulminate, no doubt, on his blog and on his weekly appearance on Channel 4 with Tim Griffin's sock puppet (aka Bill Vickery).
UPDATE: Lynch confirms end of his column He says editorial page editor Paul Greenberg said the reason was economic. "I am not angry with Paul or anybody else," Lynch wrote.

Lynch may be fine for radio. I'm guessing because I've never actually heard him. But he's entirely too superficial for the newspaper. I really never understood why they expended so much space for his stuff in the first place. I won't miss him.
True -- D-G is Fox News Digital in print.
I visited the AT&T store outlet in Lakewood last week wanting to do business but they had FOX news blasting away on a 50"+ TV and I walked out. One would assume that anyone and/or business supporting news that disburses controversy hate anti American antic's etc., condones it. So I visited SAM's and continued my business.
BWC, your going to an AT&T outlet "wanting to do business," then walking out in righteous indignation because they were tuned to FOX NEWS, then going to SAM'S CLUB to continue your business, is a perfect illustration for a sermon on the doctrine of "original sin." One just cannot live without sin! Only by grace, alone, can we have "the courage to be."
"Honey I Shrunk the Newspaper."
I can usually go through the paper in about the time it takes to drink 2 cups of coffee. If it wasn't just $10 a month I'd drop it.
"Democrat-Gazette to drop columnist Pat Lynch"
Oh my God, NO! Say it ain't so. Please! What a staggering blow, stunning loss, etc. Arkansas journalism will never be the same! Surely, the Arkansas Times will make room for Lynch.
With regard to Fox News, the hardheaded, yellow dog Democrat dssw of mine went to her doc's office a few weeks ago and sho' nuff, Fox News was playing. It was early and there were few others in the waiting room so she asked the woman at the desk to change the channel to CNN.
Woman said nope, she couldn't do that, doctor's orders. Dssw said, "You're kidding," and the woman said, "No, I'm not." So the dssw asked the lady to send word back to the doctor that she wanted to see him immediately to discuss the TV situation.
The doc didn't come out, of course, but in about three minutes, the lady up front got up and changed the channel to CNN.
After seeing the doc and exiting the place, the dssw noticed that the TV had been turned back to Fox News. But she didn't care, since she had not been forced to watch it while waiting.
Sometimes, ya gotta show a little fight.
Pat Lynch writes (wrote) an OK column and I applaud his civic-mindedness, but that segment with Bill Vickery on the KARK-TV morning show (usually
moderated" by Matt Mosler) may be the worst 5 minutes in television. (I see it because the TV at the Westside Y is usually tuned to Channel 4.)
I couldn't agree more with ND. I was going to post the same thing. But then again, I wouldn't call any of our local stations "news" stations. Our local "journalists" have no ability to do real journalism. Rather, they just can soundbites from whatever source they can scrounge up. We have a pathetic television news market.
Durango.....your wife is my kind of gal! From all of us who have been in similiar situations, please tell her we are proud of her actions.
Also, As much as I love Hobby Lobby, I HATE to shop in there where they are blasting out church hymns. I am going in there to buy something, not to be saved. I resent it when the proprietor of a business tries to infiltrate his/her political or religious views on the customer. Let me shop in peace.
mountaingirl, may I add a hearty, if tongue-in-cheek, 'AMEN' to that. Brookshires does the same thing, and it irks me no end. If I want to hear religious music, I'll go to church, or play it on my own music system. Hobby Lobby's and Brookshire's obnoxious religiosity has prompted me to shop at Michael's and Kroger instead. I wish people would let their lives and actions be their sermons -- then maybe I'd be more inclined to believe them.
Agreed government_cheese.
Most of our "reporters" are more concerned about how they rank on the Buzz's "Babe Bracket."
@ButWhoCares, I've left businesses with Fox blaring before. But before leaving I always ask for the manager and request they change the channel and if he/she refuses THEN I explain why they've just lost my business - forever.
Amen and amen, mountaingirl and YellerKitty, tongue-not-at-all-in-cheek, unless you're inclined to attach a religious connotation.
Same with Scrapper and the D-G. Aaaa-men. (But it's $15 a month here.)
Now Durango, I believe you need to have a heart-to-heart with Saint. Any doc so insistent on attempting to brainwash his patients doesn't deserve to have her as a patient.
Hmmm. Come to think of it, I need to change gynecologists. Every other time I've been in there, I've had to sit through "christian" talk shows, irritating at the time, but forgotten soon after. But who needs more aggravation while waiting 20 minutes or more parked bare-butt on a narrow table, trying to hold a small square of paper around you?
Yay for Durango's dssw! I was in a doctor's office a few years back--the only one in the waiting room at the time--and changed the channel from Fox to something less offensive. Fortunately in that instance, the remote was available. And I agree with the comments about church music in public places. Doesn't Chick-Fil-A do that too? I don't ever go there but it seems like someone told me about it.
I read Pat Lynch's column occasionally but I'll not be writing any letters to the ADG like all those "Sweet Tea" fanatics!
What has been posing as the statewide daily seems to be collapsing around itself, losing much of its long term talent after winning the 'War' with the old Gazette.
Meredith Oakley, Sweet Tea, and now Lyncho. Get ready for another onslaught of letters.
Mystery......I completely agree.
I have known Meredith since 1979, when we were both youngsters at the Capitol. Everyone knew her and she had a way with the legislators (especially the older more difficult ones) that no other reporter had. They trusted her and often gave her tidbits they gave no one else.
I don't know many people as dedicated to their job, or the paper, as she was. Over the years, we got to know her as well as she got to know us and our Arkansas politics. Not seeing her picture and her byline anymore is sort of like not seeing a sister again.
Whatever this new thing is, it is not our beloved statewide newspaper that we all grew up reading.
Amen to this: "Lynch may be fine for radio. I'm guessing because I've never actually heard him. But he's entirely too superficial for the newspaper. I really never understood why they expended so much space for his stuff in the first place. I won't miss him."
I just wish the newspaper would drop "Gazette" from its name. What an insult to a much better newspaper.
.
Didn't Meredith Oakley come in with John Robert Starr from the former Ark Democrat who defined new lows to which journalism could sink?
Meredith preceded John Robert Starr at the Arkansas Democrat, beginning with the paper in 1976. I know of no one in journalism who worked harder or who was more dedicated to her employer. Shame on those launching ad hominem attacks on someone they don't know.
Lynch is no progressive when it comes to marriage equality. He has the same position on that issue that NOM, The Family Council, and Mike Beebe has.
One more Lynch comment. Back when he was dominating morning talk radio in the 1990's a competitor (now 103.7 The Buzz/KABZ) kept running conservative talker, after conservative talker in competition. Finally in 2000 Lynch was fired by KARN and replaced by a conservative talker (Dave Elswick). 103.7 finally landed Lynch months later but he quit doing political talk during his run there (103.7 switched to "Entertainment Talk" for a few years before going all sports talk in 2004).
I couldn't agree more! But the flavor I love the most is Death by Chocolate!…
I think about this print stuff a lot and believe I see the future though…
It is indeed sad to see the Times-Picayune in such a reduced state. The depressing…
