Wisconsin legislators allow guns, bar speech

Posted by on Thu, Nov 3, 2011 at 2:38 PM

The Wisconsin Assembly has approved a rule allowing concealed weapons on the floor of that legislative body and the gallery. How'd they beat Arkansas to this?

Note: You may not open carry a rifle into the Assembly. Even more noteworthy: Cameras and protest signs are not allowed in the gallery because Republicans, who wanted the guns, objected to allowing implements of speech.

Is there really any question about which is more powerful — guns or free speech?

Oops. Arkansas has joined the national movement to push more criminal offenders into drug courts and community-based punishment, both to cut the cost of expensive prisons and because of the idea that community-based re-entry is a better way to discourage repeat offenses.
