I'd like to see an appropriate response: such as a trending #sambrownbacksucks on Twitter.
I think Gov. Mike Beebe's staff has better things to do than monitor Twitter for offensive tweets. Don't they?

Exhibit A that proves this young woman's point. He does, in fact, suck big time.
Guess they don’t have enough to do there. It’s like that old musical that time about the wind comes sweeping down the plains and everything’s O.K.
L. A. H. O. M. – wait a minute. Everything’s up to date in Kansas City?
O.K. Wrong old musical.
I’m talking about the one about the cyclone and happy little bluebir- . O.K. Not that one either.
The one by Truman Capote. In Cold Blood. O.K. Not a musical. But I’m pretty sure it was Kansas and Capote was into showtunes.
Look. I can’t be expected to keep up with every old musical about every dreary flyover state where there’s not enough to do whose governor’s not gay that God ever told to run for POTUS back in the day and then God pulled a fast one and they lost but we’re still supposed to take them seriously despite they suck or whatever because my plate’s full.
O.K.?
She should just change her tweet to a statement of fact: Sam Brownback monitored my tweet, contacted my school and I was forced to apologize to him. Brownback is an authoritarian censor who suppresses free speech.
One would think that the Gov would have more important things to do than respond to something as low on the radar screen as this is.
Somehow I cannot help but to ponder the age old saying 'Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things'!
Seems to me the Govs actions are speaking so loudly, I cannot hear what he is saying.
Who said: "Republicans are never funny."
Could you imagine Brownback telling one of Huck's fart jokes?
Durango, I just went on the Kansas Historical Society web site. They are celebrating 150 years of statehood this year. As part of the celebration, a panel chose 25 notable Kansans to honor. My favorite, William Allen White of the Emporia Gazette, made the list. Carrie Nation made the list. Playwright, William Inge did not. I was mystified by this as Nation's great crusade was a bust and did more harm than good by leading to organized crime. Then it dawned on me---Inge was gay. However, his home town of Independence honors him every year with the annual William Inge Theatre Festival to honor playwrights. I may try to go to the festival next year.
Inge won a Pulitzer. Nation was forced to turn tail and run out of Butte, Montana when the hootin' and hollerin' got so loud. She and her little axe were most unwelcome there.
"Free speech is one thing, manners is another." And the truth hurts sometimes.
SS, are you even aware that nothing of the sort was even said to Touchy Sammy? She made it up because a few of her classmates were laughing about how it would be funny to tell the man the truth to his face.
Besides, her followers on Twitter only numbered about 60 until Touchy Sammy's heavy-handed touch courtesy of his staff. Until the "adults" stepped in, it was just a joke among teen-agers.
Try again.
Let's see now...
A teen learns that Twitter isn't private. A governor learns that whining about a teen's Tweet is national news and all the bad kind. The public learns that bullies never grow out of it. Not a bad day.
Congrats on your 15 minutes of fame, Emma. That's a great way to leave high school and go on to college. I see four fine years ahead for you.
Schools don't have enough money to run effectively. Teachers are horribley underpayed and the rest of the state workers (me included) haven't had a pay increase in over 4 years. Not even cost of living but every year the politicians give themselves a raise and their probably paying several people over $60,000 to monitor the web to make sure nobody is saing aything negative about our crappy governor. It must be nice o be able to vote yourself a raise while the people who actually make this state rn get paid so little that some can qualify for welfare. This girl owes know one an appoligy. Sammy needs to quit worrying about censoring the 1st amendment and get back to running this crappy state before the state goes bankrupt.
For those that want a little more 'insight' - I highly recommend reading "What's the matter with Kansas."
As a school counselor who works with kids in need and takes those students on various field trips, I tell them the trip is a priviledge, they are representing our school, and they are to use their manners. If one of my students (or my daughter) tweeted such rude comments about someone taking time from their day to help us out, I would be outraged at her rude behavior choice. In addition, as a counselor who is held accountable for bullying behavior by students, I'd like to point out that her statements, if tweeted about ANYone else, could be considered cyberbullying. I hope this teen/young adult learns that manners and statements of dissent are not mutually exclusive. She has freedom of speech, but this does not mean there will not be consequences for what is said/how it is presented, and in this case, I believe this is a teachable moment...for manners, bullying, and sharing one's opinion skillfully.
I couldn't agree more! But the flavor I love the most is Death by Chocolate!…
I think about this print stuff a lot and believe I see the future though…
It is indeed sad to see the Times-Picayune in such a reduced state. The depressing…
