Northcut's objection were to bad judgment in past decisions. Particularly, he cited 1) Problems with Hispanic nightclubs and, most of all, 2) that Patel had refused to let Northcut's anti-gay bigotry stand in the way of support for a gay nightclub in Russellville. (Operators never applied for the permit and it never came to a vote.)
Patel withdrew his application seeking reappointment but not, apparently, before making remarks worthy of a Best Person in the World nomination. The newspaper included an e-mail by Northcut to the mayor and other members of the City Council. It said Northcut called Patel himself about a citizen's complaint that Patel had not worked against the gay nightclub:
So I called Mr. Patel personally to ask him about it. He told me that, 'It was strictly a matter of business and that the question of morality was not something he was going to get into. If we don't welcome this type of business, they wil go somewhere else. So we should let them in.'
That pretty well cut it with Northcut. He wrote last year in a letter to the editor about work to oppose the gay nightclub:
I want to express my deep gratitude to the members of the quorum court, the county judge and county attorney, along with others who worked very hard to prepare and then pass an ordinance that will help protect our community from this type of debauchery in the future. I wish we could totally outlaw it, but we cannot. However, like a deadly cancer, we can do our best to control it. Praise the Lord that this abhorrent situation has been contained, for now. But we must be watchful because they will be back to try it, of something like it, again. That'sthe way the devil works. So, "watch and pray."
Patel said he'd talked with his family before withdrawing. Northcut wouldn't talk to the Courier reporter. Mayor Billy Eaton said Patel had been a quality member of the Planning Commission. He said Patel took time to research agenda items, often making site visits for more information.
When Northcut received word Patel had withdrawn from consideration, he sent another e-mail:
I believe this is an answer to prayer. P.T.L.

Wow... I didn't know people this ignorant actually existed.
From the photo, it appears that Mr. Northcut has taken, "wearing your religion on your shirtsleeve", to a new level.

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!
Stay tuned for an important message!
Gaydar alert!
Look at that pic of that guy. Has anyone told him he is off the charts on the gaydar scale.
I guess Norhtcut won't be able to resist gaybar hopping if they put one so close to home.
The anti-gay agenda is strong in Arkansas. It's one reason we suck at economic development. No modern, diverse company is going to locate in a state where 10% of their employees are seen as debauched perverts and part of a deadly cancer.
Add in the prejudice against anyone not white, toss with a cultural bias against too much education, season with environmental rape, and you've got all the ingredients of an economic backwater.
It's too bad we can't get a peak at Northcutt's hard drive - I'm sure we'll find homo-porn on there. I bet under his mattress are some particularly disgusting homo porn mags too. This type never fails to live down to my expectations. They're always so afraid of the gays because they realize deep down they are themselves gay.
Local politics in Russellville is a spectator sport, as far as the populace is concerned. The actions of the Council have no relation to everyday lives, but are a constant source of amusement.
“Worst person in the world: Paul Northcut”
Gotta lotta relatives in Russellville, and some friends up on Crow Mountain, too. All who know Northcut say he’s about 50 fries shy of a Happy Meal.
The religious right's ability to use the Bible against homosexuality is in its final hours. Recent scholarship is documenting that even the Apostle Paul was more gay friendly than previously believed.
An internationally acclaimed cryptographer recently resolved a 2000-year-old paradox regarding Paul's Greek, and the resolution inadvertently revealed that Paul didn't consider homosexuality to be a barrier to heaven. The finding was verified by a Princeton trained Classical Greek scholar.
Spread the word and help accelerate full equality of the LGBT community. It's time for facts and education to wake up the Paul Northcut's of the world.
The finding is described at: http://www.prnewschannel.com/2011/11/29/di…
Videos and additional documentation regarding this discovery are available at: www.PaulOnHomosexuality.com.
Apostle Paul gay-friendly, eh? I'd take it one step further and say "Apostle Paul, gay." What about the never-getting-married and thorn-in-the-side thing?
But I digress.
After reading about Northcut I remembered, again, why I felt so free after leaving the fold. People like him make my decision easier every day.
Well, Ken Aden is from Russellville, so there's that. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure that is where he lives.
Whenever I read a rant like Northcuts, my first inclination is to wonder who the ranter is trying hardest to convince.
In many of these cases, the gay basher is trying to obfuscate their closeted gayness.
Check this site out for anti-gay crusading politicians who made the news after they were outed:

Well, little bit ago, got into a debate/discussion with my favorite facebook religious bigot. It astounds me that someone can right about a woman whose nose is cut off, offering how horrible it is that crimes like these occur, then claim that a gay pride parade is just as criminal and wrong. I am called a relativist because I refuse to look at apples and organgutans and see any similarity. .
Like Michael, Northcutt is an idiot and uses the Bible to enslave the mind as opposed to releasing it, knowing, more rightiously, what is truly just and unjust. These folks truly look at participating in a gay pride parade, painted blue and ostentacious, in the same way they see a rapist, or murderer or child molester.
"December 14 at 1:55pm · LikeUnlike · 1.Michael Collins They use relativism to promote homosexuality, when they say for instance "what about shellfish? What about cotton poly blends?" to equate dietary commands (lifted by Jesus, by the way) to sodomy. The problem is where you put the brakes on t...hat. If all morals are equal, you HAVE to entertain cannibalism, incest, rape, necrophilia, bestiality, and pedophilia with as much validity as wearing purple slacks with green shirts. You can't have a 30% relativism. Either all things are out of bounds of God's hatred, or they are as He said.
Of course,at the end of the day, Steve places himself in the throne of God to determine for himself, in direct contradiction to God's scriptures, what is right and wahat is wrong. As David said, all did what was right in THEIR own eyes."
I may be appalled by the freaks who get all painted and weird for those parades, just seems excessive to me, but dammit, it is not the same as being a killer, it is not criminal. Poor taste, maybe, but not criminal, and people like Michael and Northcutt WANT to make it criminal, on the same level as Murder, which means that these hateful bigots and asshats would love nothing better than to execute folks for being gay.
I do my best to shame them, even if they decide to gang together and threaten me in their nasty little ways. But we all have to stand up to these bigots. We have to speak to reason, and there are ways to shame these petty little tyrants.
It is time to stand up, get together our little parades of solidarity for those that are gay, to be with them, stand by them, walk with them, shield them, defend them as they march, as we march. Let it happen in Fayetteville, in Little Rock, get down into Russelville. In his face and past his church.
For the sake of those I care about, which includes, most pointedly, our dear, sweet Sista, arm yourselves and do not take these knuckle-dragging thugs lightly. You have the higher intellect, and in a reasonable situation, could verbally beat a person into submission. Asshats like Mike and Northcutt do their 'reasoning' with bats, bricks and knives. Learn to use that dang gun and take it seriously.
It is amazing that these "christians" are so infactuated by the Hebrew Torah that they don't seem to have read the back part of the book and that statement about "Thou shalt not judge". Does he realize that he is professing the wrong religion? Probably not from all of the above comments that seem to indicate that the elevator doesn't reach the top floor.
One look at this obviously inbred face was all I needed to know....about not bothering to read anything the idiot had to say. Hope he buys his momma/sister something nice for Christmas.
I've made a few comments about Northcut and some of his hidden supporters in my blog.
http://foreverknightfa.livejournal.com/tag…
I am sad to say that the article Brantley is referring to is only one part of the mess that Northcut and his followers have done in the Arkansas River Valley. One guy living next door to a church was targeted by the church members because they SUSPECTED him to be homosexual. Northcut's group likes to announce they are the " majority" view in the area when in fact they are not.
The fact that Northcut, now an elected official, demands reporters to email him only and demands they print every word of his unedited itself shows what kind of person he really is.
"Chaplain" Paul Northcut runs " Cross and Shield Ministries" which he likes to claim helps law enforcement. I sometimes see him driving around Russellville in the car with his C&S sign on the door. Guess who paid for the car. I honestly feel sorry for the people the police mistakenly allows him in to help them. They better hope not to be gay, Pagan or whatever else His Royal Highness " morally" dislikes.
The Good Reverend Northcut is the sole representative of the 'Cross &Shields' Ministry and I find it odd that he has been permitted to do so.
Northcut, from my perspective, is a known petty individual who has repeatedly forced his viewpoint upon others and done so apparently without regard to the ideal of 'Separation of Church & State'.
Most recently, this earlier this year, Northcut literally raced to the Joplin area after the Tornados to offer comfort to those in need. It's a shame he didn't offer more than comfort, but we all know that 'comfort' and 'prayer' far out weighs any physical effort like cleaning up and rebuilding.
I do find it interesting that Northcut is on the staff of the Russellville PD - perhaps one can explain to everyone here why this is acceptable?
Lakeshore, people like this are one of the reasons why I'm not Christian anymore. IIRC, the second half of the bible had a lot to say about hypocrites, none of it favorable. Life IS a lot easier isn't it?
There is one thing about all of this I don't understand. A lot of the comments on this thread seem to line up with this guy (Northcut) being a real zero. Not too well liked in other words, so my question is this: how in the hell did he get elected to the city council. somebody had to vote for him or did he luck out and run unopposed?
Anyone can be a sole representative of a "ministry". He might be doing the ministry for tax purposes and to give him some sort of credibility. There are a number of "Christian ministers" whose ministerial degree came from diploma mills rather than years of study at a seminary or theological university. As for him being part of the Russellville PD, last I heard it was as a volunteer level. To be honest the Russellville Police Department has a few problems of its own, including the badly mishandled Nona Dirksmeyer murder case. Some people have literally died under their custody and one family successfully sued the police department for their negligence.
His buddy buddying to the local law enforcement tactic he's established for some years now makes me suspicious as to his real motives. As a true crime reader I've read where some criminals actually have been involved with law enforcement while not being police themselves so they can get away with their crimes for a bit longer. The BTK Killer became an animal control officer, for example.
My impression of Northcut from my brief observance at the ( lets not say Halloween) Russellville Chili Cook Off event while he was running for office was that he was doing it for self gain rather than to serve the people of Russellville.
As for his rush to Joplin after the tornado, Northcut did a PR release praising himself in the " Alliance Chaplain Ministry" web site.
http://www.cmalliance.org/news/2011/05/23/…
What he actually DID or did NOT do I do not know. I doubt he was part of the crew searching for human remains amid the rubble.
Northcut in fact does NOT believe in Separation of Church and State, He believes exactly the OPPOSITE. He was selling a book advocating his " god" in government as part of his alleged fund raising campaign when he was running for the city council seat. A view that used to be called in evangelical Christian circles Dominionism, Kingdom Now, Christian Theocracy or Theonomy ( until the sordid details of their ideal "Christian America" where various violators of Biblical law were to be executed became public, then the movement went into hiding.).
I simply don't like bullies, and his followers/lackeys don't have the courage to be open about their various tactics. The things Northcut and his little band of storm troopers are doing is not honorable and is very much the "thief in the night, seeking to kill or destroy" that his alleged religion's devil is about. I don't like the manipulation, the intimidations, the deliberate set-up situations to exploit and the overall lackeys hiding behind the scenes tactics he and his followers are doing. They are like cockroaches who hide when the light exposes them, not honorable people of whatever god they claim to follow.
To me it is immoral for people being forced through circumstances beyond their control to have to rely upon food pantries or places like Main Street Mission and it is a shame that at Christmas the churcher "Christians" don't make sure that every needy child in their area has a present for Christmas. It is immoral to me to have some posturing pissant make a crusade about easy targets like gays and adult oriented businesses while that same effort could be better used to actually help people, stop a child or a woman from being abused, comfort a lonely person or just plain being compassionate and caring to others. Ironically Jesus Christ Himself said there were only two Commandments and both were about love, not hatred or Phariseeic self-appointed arbiters of " morality".
Northcut got elected because the area the city council position opening he was campaigning for is a small community and, quite frankly, people around here almost worship " men of god". They assume because he's a police chaplain and has been so for some years that he must be a honorable guy. He does seem to have a few dedicated followers ( one could even say a cult) that apparently don't want to show their faces and have all their names counted by the general public. Some people are passable BS artists and if you have enough gullible people believing you hook, line and sinker, you have your own little army of blind foot soldiers ready to do your dirty work for you while you pretend to be free of blame.
The scary part is that what Northcut and his ilk are doing reminds me too much of a book I read about the Third Reich and how they set things up to get into power in the first place. Blame the Jews then versus blame the gays now. Same tactics, same lies and deceptions.
With all the bad people there are in the world, how can you say who is worst. Simply being bad is enough for me, and this guy obviously is.
Favorite quote from that sage Lewis Black, "I've listened to your preachers preach on TV, and they use our book. And they get it wrong every Sunday because it's not their book, it''s our book."
If I was a con artist, or a used car salesman (but I repeat myself), in a new town, the first thing I would do is join the largest church. I stay far away from any store that uses "Christian" in its name or whose ads proclaim they are "christians". In my church, you are known by your actions, not by your words and in that case, you don't need to have a billboard.
My gaydar is notoriously lame and malfunctioning, so I can't say how airy-fairy this guy is. My grifter sense is much better, and this guy's web page positively screams "GRIFTER".
Northcut is ALWAYS pandering for money for his "Non-profit" Cross and Shield Ministries...he's also "retired" and has MULTIPLE vehicles...an old police car, a motorcycle and a customized van (that when donations were being solicited for it supposedly it was to be used for when he responded to disasters such as a tornado or hurricane or when he went to New York after 9/11) AND a camo four wheeler thingy I think is called a mule.... BUT you see him and his wife cruizin' all over Russellville in it and eating breakfast at Hardees. He responded once to a situation where teenage duck hunters were missing on the Arkansas River late at night with snow flurries and he was more concerned with making himself some coffee than comforting the mother of one of the missing boys...he also ALWAYS has a pistol on his hip...curious I always thought...and can't write or tell you enough what a WONDERFUL person he thinks he is and ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE DOES....cue me vomiting now...what a piece of work!!!!!
Something in the water around that Russellville/Dover area. Does the power plant have anything to do with it?
Paul Northcut is in NO WAY AFILIATED RPD!!! IN NO WAY!!! His car came from Atkins, P.D. Where he is a part time officer.
Northcut is NOT IN ANY WAY ASSOCIATED WITH RPD. His actions and words have infuriated the other seven members of the Council. He got elected because people tired of his opponent...I bet they wish now they had re-elected him....
I do believe Mr. Northcut used to/still does? fill his vehicles up at the Pope County Sheriffs Office before he became "part-time" there and before the current Sheriff...of course the only thing that changed about the S.O. is the name of the sheriff other than that same old same old....as far as Northcut being affiliated with RPD "Officially" maybe not but he definitely has access and roams the halls there. Wish he would go back where he came from and quit giving Russellville a bad image!
Gee Pastor Northcutt, what bible do you use?? The ones I've used over the years (only the King James and New Revised Standard Interpreters Bibles) tell me things about judge not lest ye be judged (you must be perfect so this one is of little consequence to you) or that one about glass houses and stones - might want to check that one out, since you threw some in your letter, I guess perfection has escaped you. But on the good samaritan-don't guess you read that one either. Oh yes I guess you'll probably tell us you were using tough love on those you feel needed it when you were applying "love one another" - that's in there also. But we're glad you shop in town and hope you stay there. I'm sure that's the best way to win friends and influence people. Just don't tell us you are a leader in a church, cause that's not so.
With the Christmas season rapidly appoaching, I have spent the past month or so reflecting on the gifts we all share as residents of Russellville. This is a picturesque town surrounded by the best natural beauty Arkansas has to offer. Inside our town are intellegent, hard working, friendly people. Our city government is led by a fair minded, dedicated Mayor, that frankly, we are lucky to have. I believe our City Council is, by and large, intellegent individuals focused on making the decisions that will best serve our city, it's citizens and it's future. I have had great concerns about the character of Northcut for many years but am gravely disappointed to learn the depth of his bigotry. I would respectfully request that Northcut resign his position. He is ill suited for the responsibility of leading our community. A quiet resignation, I believe, might end the frenzy of newspaper articles, petitions and blogs and return our city (and the images we project to the outside world) to the peaceful place we all love. Give the city a Christmas present Northcut.
There was a saying after WWII "remember it can happen here" - it's time for Russellville to send a clear message that this intolerance will not be tolerated. IT HAS TO STOP NOW.
This forum is clearly full of equally ignorant kooks. Accusing someone of necessarily being gay because of personal protest is not only ludicrous, it is plain childish. Not participating in the trendy fawning over the disgusting behavior of some perverted homosexuals has no correlation with education or sanity. Queer behavior is just that...queer. It provokes a negative physiological reaction in (dare I say!) most people, something akin to mild nausea and disgust. As a libertarian, I fully believe that you have a right to do what you like in the privacy of your own home, but when you flaunt filth in public, you will be met with justifed resistance. Your right to be free does not eclipse my right to be free from you.
sik phuc tyrannical, you may love something more disgusting, like lutfisk, but though you have a right to eat that disgusting dish where you may, do not have a right to tell you to keep that mess away fom me. You have no right to tell others where they can and cannot go just because your tender little hatreds do not like the way they were born. I know I am a little too dark for some folks, and when they see me with a griinga, they get upset.
To you, it is disgusting behavior, but since there is not injustice with being born gay, just like there is no injustice about me being messican, you just have to suck it up and swallow you hatred and wallow in your spleen. If you want to bee free form others, go live in a cave. You have no right to subjugate them simply because YOU don't 'like' it.
Northcutt has a facebook profile. Everyone should send him a message telling him what they think of his extremism and dogmatic approach to politics.
Sic semper, when the church busybodies who called the sheriff in to deal with a man living next door to their church because they THOUGHT he was gay, the man was not being vulgar or openly expressing anything of a sexual orientation. In fact, he was being a private person and may NOT in fact have been homosexual. The church crones, instead of actually talking with him, saw what they claimed were men going into his home and made the assumption that this private, discreet person was gay.
This was on the front page of the Russellville Courier on Nov.22, 2009.
Northcut in this incident was trying to claim there is a "homosexual agenda" in Russellville and the Arkansas River Valley. If you live here as I do, there are NO openly gay or LGBT people, much less an organized group. " Homosexual agenda" is a buzz phrase to incite fear and a response not based on facts.
As for vulgar behavior, you might want to have the same standards regarding heterosexuals that you use on gays.
The Russellville City Council passed a resolution censuring Mr. Northcut. Most discussion comments were in favor of the resolution and several called for Mr. Northcut to resign. It was all very civil but uncompromising. Only Mr. Northcut voted against the resolution.
http://www.icpc4cops.org/intro-to-chaplaincy/ethics.html you can write to the ICPC (who certified Mr. Northcut for his chaplaincy and can take it away) at icpc@icpc.gccoxmail.com
he has broken sections I, III, and VIII of their policy.
he is the most arrogant person there is, wearing a gun all the time, always bringing attention to himself, not a humble servant at all. and guilty of making terrible judgemental mistakes. of course he is never sorry. we do not need public servants like him.
I guess you should really know someone before you make comments about them, but some people just like to make comments about every thing and every body. Like my Gramps used to say, "everybody has a nose, just like everybody has an opinion" What is your opinion worth? What have you done to make your nose any more special than anyone else?? When we were without food did you bring us some, when we had no money to buy clothes did you buy us clothes...you who would talk dirt about someone you only have hearsay about? This man, you don't know! He helped us through some bad times for many years without judging us. He's just like that...it doesn't matter who you are...he helps. There are hardly ANY people like that any more...and I would wager that NONE of the people who posted on this site would do that simple gesture, or have ever done it. Sure he's made some mistakes...he's not a god. You who have critized this stranger to you...are you perfect?
Justsayin' thank you for the link. I should add that people can email the Arkansas area ICPC representative as well. The ICPC area representative is Tamara Gore whose email is chaptgore@hotmail.com
BTW evidence of Northcut's ICPC ethics violations include his letters to the editor published in the Russellville Courier newspaper.
Ivy, if your claims are true , then you should have reported him to the police. One of the problems I find about people online making such accusations as you do is that, for all intents and purposes, the anonymity of those making such accusations. I am more into actual evidence, proof, than hearsay, gossip and anonymous accusations.
Victor, while I do question some of the personal character comments of those who post here about Northcut, I am myself open about my views on the man and what I do and do not currently know about him. Your ad hominen post does not excuse the unethical tactic he did as an alderman in the city Planning Commission.
Whether Northcut is on the level in his C&SM is not something I know for sure or not at this point. But as Justsayin' points out, he did violate his police chaplain group's code of ethics.
The Russellville branch of the GOP voicing their support of Northcut in the Courier really didn't make the GOP look good, BTW.
On Wednesday the Courier had a front page article where Patel is asking to be renominated to the Planning Commission board of the Russellville City Council.
So basically Northcut even lost on his objective.

dbi--True, but sad. When I paid $190. for a year of the D-G, it hurt…
Proves the adage that nothing is free, nothing is simple.
This whole mess stinks.
