Obama moves to raise the debt ceiling

Posted by Max Brantley on Tue, Dec 27, 2011 at 2:39 PM

The nation's debt limit apparently will be going up. And that tricky President Obama may have done it in such a way to make it harder for the Republicans to make a political show out of it. (Note I didn't say impossible.)

Obama got 'er done, so the GOP's agin it.

But three years ago, Newt was all for it.

The GOP would rather hurt America than help it, if help comes from Democrats or means bipartisan compromise and cooperation.

After 7 straight years of raising the debt ceiling under BushCo and now having milked it for all it's worth has run its course where will they turn next?

Saline?
Orvillee?
Colon_ed?
Holmes?

What's on the Republican talking points memo for January?

You're seeking commentary from attention-starved trolls, eL? Is that the best GOP representation the fabled blog's got?

Because forget debt ceilings. What's important is it turns out Nixon was gay.

Maybe gay. Probably gay. Might have been gay. Had this "thing." Was Miss Thing.

If it was the National Enquirer I'd believe it. But it's the Daily Mail. So I don't know.

Plus Tricky Dick was a "serious drunk," beat poor Pat, had links to the Mafia going back to 1949, loved Broadway musicals and stands like a showgirl in this candid pic.

Neither is Rick Perry, you know.

Yea, the debt is no big deal. Obama has shown that during his administration. It is just an accounting item. The Chinese will loan it to us as usual so what is the big deal over a little money owing? Anywho, we don't have to pay it back. Our children and grandchildren can do that. What else have they got to spend their third world money on---rice and beans?

Senator Barack Obama 2006 -
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” …….. Senator Barack Obama

Great quote ,Orval, but the debt ceiling rise is made to accomodate the spending that Congress (those Tea Pot brains) have already authorized. If they don't want to raise it, then cut the damn Defense budget. If they want to stall it, I suggest Treasury sit on those over-charged Halliburton bills until Cheney turns green.

Neither Social Security nor Medicare caused the deficit issue. That was caused by a ReTHUGlican president cutting revenues by a tax cut for "his base" while starting two wars, one totally based on lies by he and his immediate staff, without planning to pay for them. I think that is just too much deep thinkling for President Bush and probably the work of President Cheney.

Only an idiot, but I repeat myself, goes into a major war with no plans to pay the bills.

Blow the smoke off the pen and get to slipping in some recess appointments, Barry! Slip them in between whacks of the gavel....be all Bush about it and 2012 might be a better year.

I'll tell you what scares the crap out of me - the Supreme Court, currently led by conservatives who can and may undo everything we liberals hold dear. And we can't vote them out. How in the world have we Americans let ourselves bow to 4-5 people who can undo progress?
