Occupy the Courts has Fayetteville beachhead

Posted by Max Brantley on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Occupy the Courts, a movement to protest the Citizens United corporate personhood ruling, plans nationwide demonstrations in 100 cities Friday, Jan. 20, second anniversary of the ruling, as part of a push to amend the law.

At the moment, only Fayetteville is listed as a site of an Arkansas demonstration. The plan there is to meet at noon at the Fayetteville town center and march to the federal courthouse.

God created people. People created corporations. Big difference.

People are moral. Corporations are amoral. Big difference.

People seek life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Corporations seek profit. Big difference.

People go to jail for breaking the law. Corporations do not. Big difference.

People have children who inherit the earth. Corporations do not.

People fought and died for freedom. Corporations did not.

Democracy cannot survive when the political rights of citizens are extended to multi-billion-dollar global corporations who can use that money to control every facet of government. It is time for a constitutional amendment to preserve democracy.

I mentioned on the blog a long time ago that political scientist Les Dunbar (for whom I worked for a short time in the sixties) wrote that the only Supreme Court decision worse than Santa Clara County vs. Southern Pacific Railroad, which first found that corporations were people, was the Dred Scott decision, which found that black folks are not people. The latter has long-since been reversed!

occupy lr. Now I think I've got it: You believe in God and people create corporations but if I have a non-government job I am not moral. I'm afraid I'll miss the protest as I'll be occupying my job trying to make a profit for myself. Nice poster but they left off the sickle.

No, you just work for an organization that is legally organized solely for profit. There's nothing inherently wrong with that. It's just not a person. I think you know that.

Occupy ONWA is falling into a self-kettling trap here. I am relieved to see other OWS communities in AR are not doing so. Move To Amend dot borg is not OWS. If occupy folk simply allow anyone to create a web site and co-opt/kettle them with such dreadful, limiting, and amateur language, then they will surely fail.

Occupying courts who can't do a thing without a case in front of them is pure folly. That said... there is plenty of opportunity... the anniversary should be acknowledged in memorial of what we lost and as a teaching moment. If you want it back... occupy state and fed legislators! And craft far better language than Move To Amend has.

Occupy NWA might be taken more seriously if they disassociated themselves from that clown Abel Tomlinson. Eating magic mushrooms, climbing up into a tree across the Washington Co. Courthouse, and ranting and raving for 3+ hours is not the face you want associated with a movement.

OccupyLR. Indeed there is nothing inherently, intrinsically or even immanently wrong with making a profit in the private sector for it pays for the indulged, indolent and indifferent in the government sector who do not. The Occupy/CU agitation is coincidental to the hope and change continuum that will become ever more raucous through November. The distortion of case law should not be surprising when championed by followers of Cornell West who seem unbridled even in their most basic bathroom behavior.

Transcend negativity and egocentric consciousness Eureka Springs, and realize this being would not do anything if there was someone else doing the job. And by the way, most people still love me. Those that hate are thankfully few. Also, please check out this Free Weekly article recently published that urges a dissociation from egocentric judgment and condemnation, and an evolution into humility and love...http://www.freeweekly.com/2011/12/29/guest-opinion-abel-tomlinson/

You're saying prayers to the devil, I say
Why not help another on the way

Make way for the positive day

Cause its a new day
New time, new feeling yeah!
Say it's a new sign
Oh what a new day
Picking up.
Are you picking up now

Laughing. I think scrapper72 hit a nerve. But I am only guessing since I said nothing about any individual.

***and realize this being would not do anything if there was someone else doing the job.***

And you want to lecture someone else about ego?

Love is many things, among them it is irrational. This is where the hippy dippy doo's just lose me every time these days. Law is not love.. and the best law language should definitely make all attempts to be rational, imo. This countries recent experience with Hope ought to more than enough proof of the danger in re nation of laws based on false promise of irrational emotions alone.

To amend or not to amend - or more specifically what does the amendment language say/do - it's about the constitution, rule of law, and whether or not we treat it like a toy etch a sketch. Clearly you have decided to treat this point in time as such... You have fun with that, Abel!

Sir...Love is the most fundamental law of the universe...please listen to the words of perhaps the wisest anglo woman to ever walk the soils of America..."God is Love, and whenever you reach out in loving kindness, you are expressing God. God is Truth, and whenever you seek truth, you are seeking God. God is Beauty, and whenever you touch the beauty of a flower or a sunset, you are touching God. God is the Intelligence that creates all and sustains all and binds all together and gives life to all. Yes, God is the Essence of all. So you are within God and God is within you - you could not be where God is not. Permeating all is the law of God - physical law and spiritual law. Disobey it and you feel unhappiness - you feel separated from God. Obey it and you feel harmony - you feel close to God.

Love is not hippy dippy b.s....it is a core of the highest spiritual wisdom known to humankind..."If you love yourself, you love everybody else as you do yourself. As long as you love another person less than you love yourself, you will not really succeed in loving yourself, you will love them as one person and that one person is both God and man. Thus he is a great and righteous person who, loving himself, loves all others equally.

More from some of the Highest Hearts in history....and ten times this many can be provided upon request....please attempt to comprehend with an open mind...

Love hinders death. Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source.
-Leo Tolstoy

I have taken (moksha medicine) six times now and have been taken beyond the realm of vision to the realm of what the mystics call "obscure knowledge"- insight into the nature of things accompanied by the realization that, in spite of pain and tragedy, the universe is all right, in other words God is Love. The words are embarrassingly silly and, on the level of average consciousness, untrue. But when we are on the higher level, they are seen to stand for the primordial Fact, of which consciousness is now a part.
-Aldous Huxley in Moksha

The BELOVED is all in all, the lover only veils Him;

If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and Peace are eternal.
-John Lennon

"Love has no end. Love is not successful; it does not reward you or punish you. Love is a state of being, a sense of radiancy. In love is all virtue. In the state of love, do what you will, there is no sin, no evil, no contradiction; and without love we shall ever be at war with ourselves, and therefore with each other and with the world. It is love alone that transforms the mind totally." -Krishnamurti

-Ghandi

By love I do not mean any natural tenderness, which is more or less in people according to their constitution; but I mean a larger principle of the soul, founded in reason and piety, which makes us tender, kind and gentle to all our fellow creatures as creatures of God, and for (her) sake.
-William Law

This identity out of the One into the One and with the One is the source and fountainhead and breaking forth of glowing Love.

"Love is the most practical thing in the world. To love, to be kind, not to be greedy, not to be ambitious, not to be influenced by people but to think for yourself--these are all very practical things, and they will bring about a practical, happy society." ~Krishnamurti ♥

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer, no disease that enough love will not heal; no door that enough love will not open; no gulf that enough love will not bridge; no wall that enough love will not throw down; no sin that enough love will not redeem...it makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble; how hopeless the outlook; how muddled the tangle; how great the mistake. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all. If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world.

Would it be better to take on the tactics of other recent movements, like carrying guns to town meetings and sending death threats to congressmen who voted for health care reform?
