Nobody can sense a parade better than Mike Huckabee and when he sees one, it's not long before he's up in front, elbowing the drum major if need be.
Today, he's leapt to the defense of corporate raider Mitt Romney. Any who'd criticize vulture capitalism are just left-wing anti-capitalists, The Huckster says. His e-mail blast says, in part:
Bad companies have to die to make way for stronger companies, in the same way that old trees fall over to make way for new trees.
Bain killed many good companies, of course, sometimes to create bad companies. Didn't matter how over-leveraged the effort to reduce competition made some buyers. Bain and Romney got rich.
UPDATE: On the Huckster beat, Sen. John McCain says Huckabee has been dishonest in talking about the 2008 primary in South Carolina. Huckster thinks McCain got Fred Thompson to stay in to split the conservative vote and foil Huck. "That's totally false," McCain said. "It's totally patently false, and for him to say something like that, maybe it makes him feel better but it's not the truth."

We'll let good old Newt respond:

Now that Romney is presumptive GOP nominee, are we to see "corporate raider" in all subsequent AT blog posts? Who needs perspective in a campaign year, right? ... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405…
It takes a Vulture Politician to love a Vulture Capitalist, don't ya know. Like Mitt, Huckabee did anything and everything to earn his Florida mansion. Huck didn't have a rich daddy like Mitt did, but he had Jennings Osborne, which ain't half bad.
Nasty Newt's video "When Mitt Romney Came To Town" is about all one needs to know about the Mormon Prince. It will be very good for Obama if Mitt is the GOP nominee....a little more revenge for that Mountain Meadows Massacre....
There are so many pros and cons on Romney amongst the candidates that it's hard to keep them straight. They were ranting about it on a cable show today and someone said the corporate raiders were going to turn us into Socialists. I believe they meant Fascists, but who knows?
Corporate raiders don't necessarily go after weak and failing companies. They go after undervalued companies which may have some interesting assets on their balance sheets, e.g., a store chain that owns its own buildings or stock in another company that has great value. They can separate a store chain and its building/land operations, milking one for rent from teh other and borrowing money and leaving the debt behind for the stores to pay when they pull the cash value out.
The way to handle this is to do like the rules for swap options on real estate-make them hold on to a piece of the action so if it fails, they also take a hit.
An example of a company owning parts of another company-Petrie Stores happened to own some shares of a little start-up chain called Toys 'R' Us that they got when helping the company start up and over time, these had split and grown so that there was more value in their stock holding than all of the value of their stock. Didn't take much thought on killing this one.
Everyone inside the '08 campaigns knew that John was begging Fred to stay in.
That's true and it's also true that most of the signers of our Declaration of Independence were preachers, like me.
The Huck is wanting to be appointed by President Romney to the new cabinet post Minister of Religion.
we all remember that Bill Clinton called NO-bama's story and effort in 2008 a "joke" and "fairy tale" and then Hillarity gets to be Sec of State....so be (and I know you cant) FAIR !!!
Thank you OccupyLittleRock for the video clip which I put up on my blog. http://haltingarkansasliberalswithtruth.co…
Change in the marketplace is driven by the wants and needs of consumers. Are we to protect the jobs of those who work for companies that want to cling to the past?
I hope it's not lost on anyone how close this incident was to the robbery/murder…
Hahaha. Partisanship invalidates opinions? This, coming from folks that are actually talking about supporting Q…
Of course you're right, MarcKyle 1964. Yet, as I responded to my new friend Verla…
