Suspected killer slain in gunfight with cops UPDATE

Posted by Max Brantley on Mon, Jan 23, 2012 at 10:55 AM

The Magnolia Reporter has the initial news on the police shooting of Donald Hux during a gun battle Sunday night on U.S. 82. He was being sought as a suspect in the killing of Sandy Carl Huckabee of Arkadelphia, a cousin of former Gov. Mike Huckabee, and the abduction of Sandy Huckabee's wife, Amy, who formerly was married to Hux.

Amy Huckabee was shot by Hux during the shootout with police.

UPDATE: Here's a full rundown from ABC. This was one bad guy, who left three children without their mother. He left jail to kill, despite his ex-wife's warning to police about threatening letters she'd received.

Sad. Another demented soul with easy access to guns.

Cato

Reading the link sure made it seem that this sick, sick man would have used a knife or baseball bet if guns not handy.

Did not seem momentary lapse but seething and building.

For once the blog killings aren't in LR to add to our total.

Cato, easy access to guns is a cop out, an excuse, a plain line of bull. As Citizen pointed out, it is the violent scumball who will grab anything handy to abuse what they consider THEIR property.

Back when K was a nurse in the ER, she had a woman in her arms that had been beaten by her hubby. K had to hold the back of the woman's head to keep the skull from slipping off and spilling the brains all over the ER floor. K herself had an ex that beat her half to death with a revolver. Beat her on the head till the walnut grip broke. These guys got light sentences and all sorts of excuses made for them, they drink, they are stressed, there was easy access to guns, all the things that folks do to keep from facing the reality that these guys are savage animals that escalate their violence from pushing, to hitting, to beating, to murder. These are not reasonable folks. They understand only force, and being the cowards they are, will recoil when force is applied to them. They have not earned the respect of the courts, or their women or those of us outside making excuses for them.

When a woman gets a protective order, that order needs to be given some teeth, and the LEOs and courts need to take the situation seriously. How many women must die before someone in the court system says that a guy breaking the protective order needs to be immediately removed from society ad placed far away from civilized folks?

I totally agree with everything in Steven E's post. Domestic violence is a huge problem that is consistently and systematically underestimated by law enforcement, courts, etc. About a dozen Arkansan women are killed by their partners/ex-partners annually. I work with survivors at local women's shelters and urge anyone in an abusive relationship, or who has a loved one who may be, to check out www.thehotline.org for assistance-its the website of the National DV Hotline.

Strange, Steven, the cop out seems to ignore killings, bank holdups, robberies, etc., are with guns, not knives, baseball bats, poison, explosions, spears, lances, sabers, or the like. Or do you not read the nightly crime report on this blog and you must ignore LR's FOX 16.

Thank you, Cato.

And Steven E, remember Gabrielle Giffords, who survived, a nine year-old girl, a federal judge and four others who did not survive the attack by a nut who easily obtained a 9mm Glock with a 33 cartridge magazine . . . not to mention the other traumatized victims, wounded or not.

The second amendment can easily be upheld without the massive proliferation of handguns and assault weapons you and your compatriots have promoted or supported.

And the Jonesboro school killings could have been done with a bat, knife, slingshot etc?

The W.Memphis cop-killings could easily have been done with a ?

High-powered firearms will keep us free and deadly. Can't wait till I can get a turret mounted 50 mm on the SUV, surely Roberts-Scalia will understand the necessity. The messicuns will see me coming!

Cato, dot, eL, a reminder for you guys,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNDZGvSfzI4… Without gun, this woman is a victim, period. Do you all think this was a bad thing for ease of access to firearms? Perhaps in your world, it is better to wait for the cops to get there and save her. Life didn't work that way. She was on her own, with her child, alone against two guys, one with a large knife. Ever fought a guy with a 12 inch knife? I have, it isn't easy for one trained and raised to fight that way, never mind one young woman against two men. I have the scars of that fight. They will never go away, and survived that attack.

Here is an older woman, alive because she was armed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrL53-dE5Sc But I guess to you three, it is better to blame the tool for the evil that men do and ignore the manifest good that tool does when handled by those who need it most, an 18 y.o. defending her child, and a 66 year old woman, alone at home.

There is also another 911 call that has a vision of your world, a world where the helpless will always remain helpless. It is long, and it is horrifying. An elderly lady, alone, unarmed, woefully naive in her thinking that 911 means salvation. In it, you can hear her scream for help. You can also hear the perp beating on her door. Then you hear the perp break in, then you hear the higher shriek of a woman being murdered. She is being beaten, she is being stabbed, her cries for help more piteous. You hear her die. All the while the dispatcher is trying to talk to someone. Finally, the perp picks up the phone and hangs up.

That is your world, Cato, doc, eL, the world where the helpless remain so, rather than have a means to even the odds.

Yes, I read the news. Enough of it to almost make me as bitter and shriveled as DBI. I also read the stats that make me happy. FBI reports showing how firearms sales have skyrocketed and crime has gone down, and despite what the intellectually bereft have tried to convince us, gun related violence has NOT gone up in accordance with the volume of firearms.

Now, as we look at cases where women have been in that escalating, violent relationship, the tendencies of the perp are no surprise. When your dealing with some loner whackjob in AZ that has been noted, poked, prodded then allowed to run rampant, why are we so surprised? The perps are allowed to demonstrate their violent tendencies, get ignored constantly, then there are those with the intellectually dishonesty to whine about the tool. How about taking a harder look at why so many of these guys come to that point where they are shooting at a congress woman. Or they shoot their ex, which is SUCH a surprise to everyone but the folks at Battered Women's shelters. Or they shoot up a college.

Oh, and eL, the worst mass killing at a school was done without a bullet entering a human body. http://www.amazon.com/Bath-Massacre-Americ…

As I have told Outlier, the human animal has a propensity for violence, and for many folks, the ONLY thing that will save them is their easy access to firearms. I have no problems with making sure that folks who should not get near guns be barred, better yet, kept in their jails instead of released to continue their predations. My ideal country would have a rifle, a shotgun and handgun in every household where you don't have a demonstrable loon resding therein. I think of Sista, and her beloved WBW, and how some of the areas where you guys live are surrounded by red neck troglodytes like Michael of the christian taliban, or Clint Mccance. If these folks take a notion to gang up on two wonderful women enjoying their love and life together, I would prefer they have meaans of leveling the odds.

I don't think it's as simple as "all guns" or "no guns." There's something wrong in our brains.

Reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite movies, "Death Proof:"
"Look, I don't know what futuristic utopia you live in, but the world I live in, a bitch need a gun."
