Dorial Green-Beckham going to Missouri

The latest phenom on whom the Hog faithful had invested dreams of pigskin paradise — Dorial Green-Beckham of Springfield, Mo. — has announced he'll take his football receiving talents to the homestate University of Missouri. The Hogs were in the running. You may resume your normal life, crushed though it is. (CORRECTION: I misidentified a helmet in the original version of this item.)

PS — Our sports columnist, Beau Wilcox, had a good take on signing day craziness and the emotion many invest in 17-year-olds.

He's staying in his home state. Good for him and good for Mizzou. I wish him well.

His brother has leukemia, and DGB wanted to stay close to home. Hard to fault a kid for that.

Also, that's a Hillcrest (Mo.) football helmet in the pic.

I have to applaud his loyalty to his state. I'm proud of him. I remember too vividly the betrayal I've felt when Arkansas athletes like Keith Jackson fled the state. I can't forgive them. It's unfortunate, however, that he'll be doomed to the mediocrity of Mizzou football. As a former student and fan, they'll find a way to screw it up.

Whatever else was cropped out of the photo, the helmet in the photo above is from his high school team.

Infamous Amos,
Fayetteville is closer to Springfield, MO than Columbia, MO is.

I really thought he would consider the fact that Petrino runs a much better offense for him.

@The Hog: Yeah, by about 40 miles, but his brother is being treated in St. Louis and Memphis. It's only about 45 minutes further by car from Columbia to Memphis than it is from Fayetteville to Memphis, and St. Louis is much closer obviously.

@SalineRepublican: This kid is going pro in three years regardless. While his stats would have been slightly better at Arkansas, Missouri will have to throw to him early and often to compete in the SEC, so I don't think the disparity will be that great. James Franklin is not Tyler Wilson, but he's still a good enough QB to find a talent like DGB.

The Hogs needed the linebacker who committed yesterday more than they needed another good receiver.
