KATV reported tonight on a UAPB audit that found almost three-quarters-of-a-million unaccounted for in operation of campus housing. Four people have been fired, including the chancellor’s secretary. The secretary oversaw housing finances and overpaid her husband sister, according to the report. Questions were also raised about a number of purchases.

Here’s the main audit finding.

Chancellor Lawrence Davis responds here, in defense of many of the activities I think you could say. It’s nonetheless a less-than-sparkling description of UAPB management. Hiring of a relative was defended in one case for dorm cleaning work because physical plant workers weren’t available. The chancellor said his secretary and her husband “were among the few willing to work at unpopular times.”
