Hurst fined again by bar committee for late filing

Posted by on Thu, May 24, 2012 at 11:12 AM

Q. Byrum Hurst Jr., a Hot Springs lawyer and runoff candidate for the 4th District Congressional nomination, has run afoul again of the committee that regulates lawyers in Arkansas.

He's been fined $1,000, plus $50 costs for tardy filing in an appeal of a client's criminal case. He blamed it on a breakdown in a computerized case management system.

Here's the finding of the Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct, filed today at the Supreme Court. The filing notes that he'd been cited four previous times for missed appeal deadlines.

His full disciplinary record, link here, includes six reprimands and five cautions.
