Thursday night line

It's open. Closing out:

*HIGHLY PAID LR COP: Very interesting story on Channel 4. About an unnamed Little Rock cop who's made $128,000 in a year thanks to heavy overtime. She filed a harassment complaint against the chief after he began reviewing her overtime.

* JUSTICE IN FLORIDA: The US DOJ has moved to stop a Tim Griffin-style vote suppression campaign to remove likely Democratic voters from the books on bogus pretexts.

'REFORMER' ON ROMNEY TEAM: Mitt Romney's campaign has announced a team of education advisers. Arkansas has supplied one, Robert M. Costrell. He's professor of education reform and economics and holds an endowed chair in education accountability at Walton U. in Fayetteville. He'd been an education adviser to Romney in 2005-06 and chief economist for the state of Massachusetts.

* WALMART DEMONSTRATION: 40/20 reports on a report group that is on hand to demonstrate about the Walmart foreign bribery involvement and other management shortcomings. They'll be in the minority, of course, at the annual stockholders meeting.

* 10,000 AND COUNTING: A small horn toot for the Arkansas Times. Today, we added our 10,000th account of someone registered to post comments on our blogs and elsewhere on the website. That's a lot of active engagement. Some people have registered more than once, of course. Some others might have signed up for a particular event and moved on. But it's still a lot of people. And it doesn't include the tens of thousands of drive-by readers who read daily and engage only intellectually, or perhaps by pressing a like/dislike button on someone else's comment, but don't register to comment. We counted more than 500,000 unique visitors last month. Thanks. Not bad for a throwaway tabloid. Fun fact. We've been blogging since the fall of 2004, almost eight years. Changes in our operating system make it impossible to compile a record of blog posts and comments from the beginning. But we've had 341,000 comments in the last three years, since June 3, 2009.

  • Hmmmm. Tone change on analysis of tort reform

Funny. I wrote yesterday about a sharp analysis of the legal impact of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce's proposed constitutional amendment on "tort reform," which would strip the Arkansas Supreme Court of rule-making authority in damage lawsuits.

  • KATV owner pondering sale of TV properties

Local angle on this item in Politico. It quotes Robert Allbritton, CEO of Allbritton Communications, as saying he's considering the sale of his TV stations, but hanging onto Politico no matter what.
