Windstream, the telephone company spunoff in the sale of Alltel that is based in Little Rock, announced today the expected layoffs of 375-400 management employees, or about 3 percent of its 14,500 workforce.

No immediate word yet on Little Rock-specific impact.

UPDATE: A company spokesman said, "It's too early in the process to know the locations of the positions that will be affected."

The changes, to be completed in the third quarter of the year, will save $30 to $40 million management said.
