Yeah, it's hot. The line is open.
* MEMORIES: Demolition has begun of the building on University Avenue that housed Bennigan's and decades worth of other eateries, some memorable, some not so much. I believe this will be the location for a new McDonald's, somewhat controversial on account of traffic issues. No hot singles-bar memories of Bennigan's for me, though I was a fan of their macho nachos. I remember nearly weeping as I met my wife-to-be there for dinner in 1974, my car just having failed the state licensing inspection at the nearby Penny's Auto Center. Where was I going to get the money for required repairs? My Arkansas Gazette take-home pay was about $101 a week. Even with an $80-a-month unairconditioned apartment in North Little Rock, it didn't go very far.
* FOR THE RECORD: 106 today in Little Rock, a record. A crisp 104 at the Weather Service station in North Little Rock.
* FIRE HAZARD: The wildfire news tonight is in Saline County where, TV stations are reporting, fires are threatening some homes in the East End neighborhood.
Question of the week: Will the immensely heightened danger deter firework, celebratory firearms eruptions, barbecues and other rights held sacred by many Arkies on July 4?
