When natural isn’t, well, natural

You're browsing through packaged chicken at a grocery store, and you probably come across several brands that carry the 100% Natural label. The good news is, many brands that carry this label do lack preservatives and artificial flavoring. The bad news? They may have been injected with water and salt that doubles or even triples the sodium content and forms 15% of the chicken's weight. These ingredients are added to make the chicken more tender and juicy, but they take away from its nutritional value. Luckily, some brands of “natural” chicken are the kind of natural you can trust. And this week Edward’s has Sanderson Farms Chicken Fryer Breast on sale for $1.48/Lb. Sanderson Farms never adds water or sodium to its chicken. For recipe ideas go to the Edward’s Food Giant website where you can find delicious ideas such as Herb Chicken Tortellini.
