Arkansas's cowardly congressmen

Posted By on Mon, Oct 1, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Project Vote Smart has published its Voter's Self-Defense Manual for 2012, with basic information on political candidates and check lists of votes by incumbent members of Congress on key issues.

The publication also includes the Political Courage Test: "Are you willing to tell citizens where you stand on the issues you may face if elected?"

Five of the six members of Congress from Arkansas flunked that test — both senators and three of four members of the House. Rep. Mike Ross, coincidentally a lame duck, answered in the affirmative.

More information from Vote Smart here.

Sen. Tom Cotton, cordial to a fault, appeared before a capacity crowd at the 2,200 seat Pat Walker Performing Arts Center at Springdale High tonight to a mixed chorus of clapping and boos. Other than polite applause when he introduced his mom and dad and a still moment as he led the crowd in a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance — his night didn't get much better from there.

A tribute is proposed for Conway's state senator Jason Rapert: naming the city's sewage sludge tanks for him. Petitioners see a similarity.
