Beebe goes big for highway tax

With polls looking favorable and no election in his future Gov. Mike Beebe can safely cheerlead a general sales tax increase to build four-lanes, as a NWA front page today illustrates. (The governor didn't become a favorite of the lobby and corporate interests that bankrolled him by being unsympathetic to their need for government money to keep busy.)

Maybe Beebe should make Republican opposition to this a platform for Democrats since Republicans currently plan to have it both ways — beat up on those who allowed the vote then cut the ribbon for every mile of pavement laid in the future. Noted: Beebe's popularity hasn't translated into familiarity with the spelling of his name at the NWA newspaper shown here.
