Education Ark. Teacher of the Year announced

The Arkansas Department of Education announced the winner of their annual Teacher of the Year award today. It goes to Alexia Weimer, a kindergarten teacher who has worked the past six years at Avondale Elementary in the Marion School District. The award was announced today during a visit by Gov. Mike Beebe to the school. Weimer will also receive a $15,000 check from the Walton Family Foundation, which sponsors the award.

Jonesboro man drowns in Gulf Shores, Ala.

KAIT reports that Warren H. Moore, 62, of Jonesboro drowned in the Gulf of Mexico at Gulf Shores, Ala. on Monday afternoon, the latest of four victims who drowned there in less than 24 hours due to strong currents.
