Supreme Court to take up same-sex marriage cases

Posted by on Fri, Dec 7, 2012 at 2:31 PM

National news outlets are reporting that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear challenges to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriages, probably in March, with a ruling expected in June. Here's the Bloomberg report. The case that successfully overturned the California ban in lower courts was championed by Chad Griffin, the Arkansas native who is now president of the Human Rights Campaign, and plaintiffs were successfully represented by the unlikely alliance of Ted Olson and David Boies, opponents in Bush v. Gore.
