Boy, howdy, is the 4th District's new U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, who rents in Arkansas but dwells primarily in the Club for Growth clubhouse in Washington, making a name for himself.
Voted against aid for hurricane victims.
Opposes tax increases for millionaires.
Isn't ready to join George W. Bush in accepting Iraq had no role in 9/11 (and still defends the reasons for going to war).
Now this, as Think Progress reports:
Women are physically unfit to serve in combat, Rep. Tom Cotton (R-AR) claimed during a Tuesday appearance on the Laura Ingraham radio show. Cotton, who was last seen suggesting that Iraq might have orchestrated the 9/11 attacks, recognized female accomplishments in non-infantry combat roles like helicopter pilot and that women have fought and performed well in Iraq and Afghanistan. But Cotton nonetheless concludes that women should be legally prohibited from competing with men for infantry combat positions:To have women serving in infantry, though, could impair the mission-essential tasks of those units. And that’s been proven in study after study, it’s nature, upper body strength, and physical movements, and speed, and endurance, and so forth.
Tom Cotton, normally a reliable supporter of all things Israel, maybe should visit the country to see how women have been integrated into that country's combat units.
UPDATE: Cotton is also a gun nut, to date opposed to any new form of gun safety legislation. Maybe people like him are some of the reason polling shows a decline in opinion of Republican lawmakers, in the same poll that shows resistance to the NRA/Asa idea to put more guns in schools.
