He appointed Dawne Vandiver, executive director of the Arkansas Democratic Party and a former Pulaski County JP, to a seat on the state Parole Board.
She replaces Carolyn Robinson of Brinkley in a term that runs through 2020.
That has been a Robinson seat on the Parole Board since 2000, when Gov. Mike Huckabee put former sheriff and congressman Tommy Robinson in the chair, which is a paid position. Carolyn Robinson followed her husband onto the board in 2002, when TR was running again, unsuccessfully, for Congress, and has remained there. The job paid her $84,000 a year. The Robinsons have a liquor store in Brinkley. A previous farming endeavor became the subject of a long and contentious bankruptcy proceeding.
Also noted: Frank Shaw of Conway was appointed by Beebe to a vacancy on the Faulkner County Quorum Court created by the resignation of Republican Mark Bailey, who was discovered to not be living in the district he represented. A majority of the Faulkner Quorum Court had recommended someone else, a Republican. Shaw, a lawyer, was a Democratic representative on the Election Commission when Bailey's problematic residency became known.
Beebe didn't go strictly on party lines. He reappointed Mike Huckabee's personal lawyer, Kevin Crass, to a seat on the War Memorial Stadium Commission.
