Guns Just as I am — with a Glock

GUNS IN CHURCH: Gov. Mike Beebe signed legislation today to allow churches to permit concealed weapons on their premises. Legislation pends to clean up the fuzzy notice and liability issues created by the boatload by this kneejerk bit of gun nuttery.
GUNS ON CAMPUS: Also on the gun nut front is a bit more encouraging news: Rep. Charlie Collins has reportedly conceded defeat on his bill to allow concealed carry by university staff members. At least one Republican had already signaled an intent to break ranks on this bill, which was strongly opposed by university leaders. The report is that Collins would amend the bill to leave it up to colleges and universities whether to allow guns on a campus. This would represent significant movement from the existing ban on college campuses. Slippery slope. Who'll slide down it first? The Muleriders?
UPDATE: Rep. Collins explains on Twitter: "confirming amendment: colleges can opt out with annual vote of governing board."
This means gubernatorial appointees will control guns on campus. This is more Republican long-game legislation. It's not about today. It's about tomorrow and the next day, when they hope Republican appointees friendlier to guns will open campuses to firearms even if the legislature will not. Not a good compromise. Not a compromise to speak of. It effectively opens a door to guns that doesn't now exist.
GUNS IN THE CAPITOL: Still looking for that bill to allow concealed carry inside the state Capitol. Lt. Gov. Mark Darr told me on Twitter last week that he's for it. If Mark Darr be for something, who can be against?
