KARK reports that former Hendrix College President Dr. Timothy Cloyd, who announced last Friday he would be resigning and taking sabbatical immediately, faced down an intruder at his home with a gun last December.

The incident had nothing to do with his resignation, the college says.

UPDATE: The intruder had been allowed in the Cloyd house after ringing the doorbell to use the phone. Police tracked him there while chasing a suspect in a commercial burglary. In the confusion that ensued, with arrival of police and children in the home, Cloyd said he was reluctant at first to put down his gun until he was certain the intruder had been taken into custody.
