Dear UAMS Family,
Many of you may have read the article in the press today regarding the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees retreat held yesterday at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. The purpose of this retreat was to discuss the strategic and operational issues we face in advancing the mission and purpose of UAMS.
We are facing a time of significant upheaval in health care and health care finance. The uncertainties also create unprecedented opportunities. Although we must address significant financial challenges in the years ahead, we are well positioned to meet these challenges and are implementing strategies to do just that. It is important to recognize that over the past three years, we have addressed issues just as significant as those that lie ahead.
This is a time for collective action focused on our core mission and purpose as we continue to identify and address inefficiencies in our processes and procedures. Although things may feel chaotic right now, it is important to remember that, as Deepak Chopra has said, “All great changes are preceded by chaos.” If we are bold, deliberate and all work together, we will succeed individually and collectively, and our patients, students and the public will be the beneficiaries.
Sincerely,
Dan Rahn, M.D.
UAMS Chancellor
