The House Democratic caucus this morning elected Rep. Eddie Armstrong of North Little Rock as the new leader of the minority contingent, succeeding Greg Leding of Fayetteville.

Armstrong spoke highly of Leding in a report by Talk Business and the article included this:

Leding tells Talk Business & Politics that the leadership change is a natural one for the caucus at this time of year. He said he’ll still be heavily invoked in efforts to win back the House of Representatives, which Republicans gained control of for the first time since Reconstruction in the last election cycle.

Entering his last term, Leding said he wants to focus on more legislative goals.

I don't think I share any secrets in saying the caucus was not unanimous in its opinion on Leding's leadership. In strictly legislative terms, a minority is always going to be limited in what it can accomplish, particularly against a majority known for discipline. But there has also been a feeling that the House could be the source of a stronger effort to recruit and elect candidates to regain the majority.

Whip: Tommy Thompson
Secretary: David Whitaker
Treasurer: John Baine
