A variety of city officials were on hand this morning for the ceremonial opening of Outlets of Little Rock,
a neighbor to Bass Pro Shops at Interstates 30 and 430 near Otter Creek.
New England Development is behind the project, in which national retailers sell goods advertised as being below normal retail prices. Officials touted the jobs the center created and the additional appeal it adds to Little Rock as a destination for visitors. The development has received government help in the form of a reduced property tax and highway construction to improve access. The company is predicting $100 million in annual sales, which would produce $9 million in local and state sales taxes, if all the sales are new sales and don't reflect some loss of business to competing retailers.
