Eight-year driver's licenses starting Jan. 1

Posted By on Mon, Dec 14, 2015 at 11:59 AM

The state Department of Finance and Administration has announced that the state will issue eight-year driver's licenses starting Jan. 1. They'll cost $40 (twice the four-year license cost of $20). The cost of duplicates, $10, will remain unchanged.

The eight-year license is available when you renew or within a year of renewal. Commercial and state identification cards will remain valid for four years.

The change in the law is the result of HB1359, now Act 343 of 2015, introduced by state Rep. Jane English of North Little Rock. The new law sets the license fee at $24, but other associated fees bring it to $40, according to DF and A.
