Former Vice President Al Gore, a former U.S. Senate colleague of Dale Bumpers, sent a statement on Bumpers’ death Friday:

Dale Bumpers was a truly outstanding public servant. I’ll always be grateful for his wisdom, his commitment to the public interest, and his sharp sense of humor. I respected and admired his common sense, his consistent ability to make the right decision even when it wasn’t easy, and his utter devotion to the people of Arkansas. Dale was a proud champion for progress throughout the South and all who served with him will miss his courage and leadership. My thoughts are with his wife, Betty, and his children and grandchildren.
