The Human Rights Campaign today released its 2015 State Equality Index

Arkansas, along with twenty-seven other states, was ranked in the lowest-rated category, “High Priority to Achieve Basic Equality.” You can see the Arkansas scorecard here

“The results from this year’s index are clear: the battle for LGBT equality at the state level is far from over, and although LGBT people in some states are seeing progress, others are experiencing new setbacks,” wrote HRC president and Arkansas native Chad Griffin in the introduction to the 75-page report.

The report notes that Arkansas “enacted a so-called religious freedom law that may allow for discrimination against LGBT people on the basis of religion” and also passed a state law attempting “to preclude local governments from enacting LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination ordinances.”
