State officials announced today that a private investment group, Caddo River Forest Products, would reopen a sawmill in Glenwood and hopes to hire 136.
The deal includes, among other incentives, a federal grant of $817,000 to the city of Glenwood to make road and water improvements for the mill. The state approved a water discharge permit for the mill months ago. When the reopening was first announced, the state said it was kicking in another $339,000 to the reopening of the mill. Other incentives put the corporate welfare package around $3 million.
David Henderson of Longview, Texas, is the leader of the the corporation making what is said to be a $50 million investment in the plant. He heads other timber industry investment projects around the country.
Georgia-Pacific opened the mill in the 1970s. It closed in about 2008.
