As part of an effort by Arkansas House Democrats to highlight the need to lower recidivism, strengthen education, ensure accountability and promote economic development, members of the Arkansas House of Representatives are participating in a LEAD Arkansas tour that is focused on promoting access to quality Pre-K for all children. The first leg of the LEAD tour will take place at preschool facilities in El Dorado and Star City on Wednesday, September 14th.
On Thursday, September 15th, House Democrats will continue with the second leg of the LEAD tour at preschool facilities in North Little Rock and Lonoke. Members of the House Democratic Caucus are focusing on Pre-K education during these tours because of the many benefits created by investing in these programs.
Studies show that by the time a child turns five years old his/her brain is at 90% of adult capacity. Providing parents the opportunity to send their kid to Pre-K results in a return on investment of $7 for every $1 invested. Children who attend Pre-K are extremely less likely to end up in the judicial system and highly more likely to finish high school and attend college. Through strengthening Pre-K - 12 education in Arkansas, our state is more economically competitive regionally and nationally.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best dividends.” It can be undeniably stated that children are the future, and most would agree that the future of children is shaped directly by the education they receive. That education, and malleable future, begins at the earliest years, specifically strengthened with available Pre-K programs.
“Members of the Arkansas House of Representatives Democratic Caucus are committed to investing in ideas our state can see a return. In order to responsibly lower taxes we must invest in ways that lower recidivism, strengthen education, ensure government accountability and promote economic development. Investing in Pre-K is undeniably a return on investment we all benefit from” said House Democratic Leader Michael John Gray (District 47- Augusta.)
