Longtime Pizza D'Action employees Gary Hoschouer and Chuck Beets have purchased the storied dive bar and pizza joint from longtime owner Orville Davis.
Hoschouer, who along with Beets has worked at Pizza D off and on for about 18 years, said to expect small menu changes and some interior updates, but no radical changes. Two specific upgrades coming soon: outlets at tables to allow laptop users to work more easily and a repaired and remodeled front entrance, which has been covered with plywood since mid-December after a driver smashed through the building and then drove away. Once the latter happens, hopefully in time for the Super Bowl Hoschouer said, look for a party to celebrate the ownership change and the "grand reopening."
The restaurant/bar's new Facebook Page is the place for daily meal and drink specials and music listings. Look for concerts at Pizza D once or twice a week, Hoschoeur said.
UPDATE: Still smoking.

This appears to be a ruse designed to end a boycott of the business due to the practices of the owner. However, the new "owners" have reportedly stated that they are not allowed to make decisions regarding re-hiring employees recently fired, and cannot lift the "ban" on numerous customers who objected.
This is a smokescreen to end a boycott imposed by regular customers and unfairly terminated former employees. The new "owners" have almost zero control over the business and cannot hire former employees. They also are not allowed control over who may enter the establishment. This is not ownership.
It's a trick. Until Kathy is reinstated, I'm never returning--and there have been many years that place consumed a full 1/3rd of my annual income. Damn shame. Maybe someone should put down the . . . well, never mind.
It's "a lot of drama" over the poor treatment of really good people. The D is my bar, and I used to spend a good deal of money there sometimes four or five nights a week. That said, I'm proud to be a part of the boycott until I get some reliable information about this dubious maneuver.
4 to 5 nights a week at a bar is not very healthy and one poster spent 1/3 of his annual income there.
Sounds like some folks need to get some new priorities in life.
Pizza D's is GROSS. Why bother saying they are going to have concerts? They require bands to load in at 3 in the afternoon, with their gear sitting in the smoke all day open for anyone to take, then they make the bands pay someone to watch the door while they play. I guess they haven't bothered to EVER go to any other music venues... because that's not the way it works.
This bar is gross, and needs to be torn down and completely rebuilt. The owner is a nut and the employees are probably better off finding a healthier work environment.
Gary has, since this announcement, been fired. I wouldn't believe anything until I see a signed contract
Favorite PDA story, and I wasn't even there.
Years ago (about 12) the woman I would later marry went there with a friend for pizza, drinks, and conversation. They ordered a veggie pizza, so she couldn't figure out why she was having to chew and chew and chew. She spat the "difficult" veggie into her napkin--PITOOEY. Lo and behold, it wasn't a veggie at all; it was a band-aid, still in a finger-sized/shaped loop. Yum!
Only been there a time or two and it's been a long time. I love a good dive, but it's just not it. I'd say it sounds like an unsavory dive in every way.... Especially the bandage story. YUCK!!
New management is totally in charge of who is or who in not banned from Pizza D
And as for the before mentioned budious maneuver. There is none. It has been up to sale for several years and negotiations with several interested parties did not work out. The most current negotiation is no maneuver though it has not been finallized. Certain disgruntled adversaries have simply been stirring a pot of negativity towards the place. The hope of many, is that Pizza D can continue to be appreciated and supported for provideing a good eating place, watering hole, and meeting place for thousands of great people, for many years ,,,"Day In and Day Out".
Did you enjoy your said,,,, free drinks, without such complaints?
I noticed you didn't refute any of the "known fact"s. Yes, it was harsh...I admit that fact. FYI- I never dogged the rest. employees for keeping the place afloat - their money. Also never stole from the owner by taking a free drink. Anyways, bashing the messenger is a [sarcasm]clever[/sarcasm] way to debate. You clearly have a vested interest in the place...Good Luck in the future.
Really Ryland? Unfair terminations? So, a certain employee, getting busted for serving a minor, and, having a $350.00 fine imposed on a business and put on 90 days probabtion through no fault of the business is unfair termination? Hmmm,,, I really can't be reading all of these unsubstanciated comments can I?
Dear Charles: As to the comment about about Pizza D making bands pay someone to watch the door. Incorrect. Pizza D takes no money from cover charges like some establishments do. All cover charge money goes to the band,,, that is their money, and, the business does not want to handle or be involved with their money. They are only required to have someone collect their cover charge money. Not provide a door person....Jeeezzz. It's been said that you're quite a nut yourself...sounds like it.
I know someone else that would like to see a signed contract too. This is getting old.
Real cleaver answer yourself Unatho,,, put it back against me on my response . Nah,,, You didn't dog anyone in your previous comment Good try on your recovery,,, Perhaps read it back to yourself or post it again. And could you please put your attorney's name and number with anymore slanderous post...
