Peter Brave hikes for charity again

For the second year in a row, Brave New Restaurant chef/owner Peter Brave will embark on a 223-mile solo hike through the Ouachita Trail to raise money for Potluck Food Rescue. Brave plans to make the hike in the first two weeks of April. To make donations, visit potluckfoodrescue.org. Brave New will also host a pre-hike party at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 11, where donations will be accepted.

Potluck Food Rescue announced today that Peter Brave, owner of Brave New Restaurant will embark on 2nd Annual Blue Fish Hike, a 223 mile solo hike through the Ouachita Trail the first two weeks of April, 2012. Through pledges and private donations, Potluck Food Rescue and Brave hope to exceed funds raised last year. Arkansas’ only food rescue organization, Potluck’s mission is to alleviate hunger by bridging the gap between excess food and the hungry.

Brave will begin his hike at Talimena State Park and will finish his endeavor at Pinnacle State Park in Little Rock. This premier trail is used by hikers, backpackers, hunters, and mountain bikers. It is a non-motorized single track trail open only to foot traffic and partially open to mountain bicycles.

"One in six of our neighbors live below the poverty line,” says Potluck Executive Director, Carol Herzog — and in Arkansas, with one child in four, regularly facing hunger and food hardship — the state ranks among the top three in the nation for having the greatest number of children living in poverty and at risk of hunger."

All Potluck's food and services are provided without charge to non-profit charitable organizations feeding at-risk Arkansans. Potluck’s consistent deliveries of free food help community food partners maximize their limited resources. Community food programs include children’s programs, emergency shelters for women and children, food pantries, soup kitchens, organizations serving displaced veterans, senior centers and shelters.

"Peter Brave has supported Potluck for over 15 years," says Herzog. "By serving on the board of directors and lending his time, energy and resources to the cause, Peter realizes that rescuing excess food to feed the hungry is logical, practical — and the right thing to do. We are excited about Peter’s commitment to create awareness and raise money to fight hunger in Arkansas."

A "Pre-Hike" Party will be held on Sunday March 11 at Brave New Restaurant at 5pm. Peter will share his passion for hiking and Potluck with guests. Pledges will be accepted that evening and can be made by visiting Potluck’s website.

Two fold and very smart of peter brave. Get a paid for two week vacation hiking the Ouachita Trail and raise money for a great cause.
