Food Feedback Friday: the popping out of Pulaski edition

Posted By on Fri, Apr 26, 2013 at 9:43 AM

Last week, on Food Feedback Friday, we had a wonderful discussion about the merits of exploring Arkansas and sampling the tastes of towns all over the state. I’ll be the first to admit that most of my dining is done in central Arkansas. I live in Little Rock, as does Michael. I eat in Little Rock, I talk with other Little Rock residents everyday about the things they are eating and what they are excited about in the food scene around them. Naturally, I get a lot of suggestions and feedback about central Arkansas restaurants. But this doesn’t mean the many wonderful cities and towns outside of Pulaski county should be completely ignored. And so, I felt we could use a “special edition” feedback session this week, an “all over Arkansas” discussion forum, if you will.

So for this week’s Food Feedback Friday, we’d like you to sound off on some of your favorite restaurants around the state that lie outside Pulaski Country. For today, let’s leave our comfortable confines and explore a bit more of what’s around the state.

So tell us about your favorites below. Please include the city, restaurant, and any favorite dishes. New or old, let’s hear them all. (Bonus points if you can point me to some exceptional donuts.) We look forward to hearing from you!

  • The Kraft Mac & Cheese Food Hack

Recently, we held another food hack competition, taking another childhood classic, Kraft Mac & Cheese, and tried to turn it on its head, creating something entirely new and unique. Again, the results were pretty awesome. The rules were simple: Use a whole box of mac and cheese, both noodles and cheese powder, and turn it into any sinister monstrosity imaginable. We had a vote via the Eat Arkansas Facebook page to crown a winner. Here's what was submitted:

  • Food Feedback Friday: The "We need your vote!" edition know the drill with Food Feedback. Tell us what you're eating this week and what you thought about it. I love to hear all the suggestions and I'm frequently looking back through your recommendations to determine my next meal. So share away! Happy weekend, y'all.

  • Looking in on the new Le Pops, now in the Heights

Le Pops is a wonderful addition to the Heights neighborhood. Laurie Harrison is incredibly dedicated to her product, she still works here 7 days a week and is constantly experimenting in the kitchen to develop new flavors. Check them out the next time you need a cool down.

  • The fall of Boehner

Nothing so became U.S. Rep. John Boehner's tenure as speaker of the House as his manner of leaving it. Subjectively speaking, he has never appeared to believe very much of the nonsense his position required him to utter. An old school politician who literally grew up working in the family bar, his conservatism is of the traditional Midwestern kind — more Bob Dole, say, than Ted Cruz.

As a young man, Ted Holder helped Arkansas take some of its first steps toward LGBT equality.
  • Huckawho? Ex-gov is yesterday's flavor

Given the wild gyrations of the Republican presidential nominating race, I write these words knowing that a future meal of them remains possible, but nonetheless: Mike Huckabee is toast.
  • First Nixon, then Boehner

Like Richard Nixon's resignation speech 41 years earlier, John Boehner's sudden valedictory from Congress may be said to be the old politician's finest moment.
  • Razorbackula and a tour through the police blotter

A certain morbid curiosity about crime is one of the few silver linings of living in a place where the per capita crime rate rivals even the shystiest hellhole corners of the country. So that’s our topic for the week, crime reporting.
