I am always on the lookout for a stellar vegan pizza. Too often, I have been stuck munching on a cheese-less triangle of bread, sparingly sprinkled with bell peppers and onions, or I have been disappointed by the overpriced and gummy vegan pizzas on offer in the frozen section. All this girl wants is a well made crust, piled high with fresh vegetables and maybe a little vegan cheese. Well, Blaze Pizza
, recently open in the Pleasant Ridge Town Center
, delivers on this wish.
I went to check out Blaze Pizza on opening day a few weeks ago, and it was already packed with happy customers chowing down on generous pizzas at great prices. The restaurant works as follows: you wait on line to specify your crust (regular or gluten free), your sauce (to which there are many), your cheese preference, (yes, they have vegan cheese), and your toppings. While meat eaters will be pleased with the selection, there are double the quantities of veggies to choose from. You can add toppings until your heart is content, because these pizzas all cost the same. Eight bucks, plus tax, will buy you an eleven inch pizza, which works out to be 6 generous slices, which is then thrown into a blazing hot pizza for 180 seconds and delivered hot and crispy to your table.
Wanting to get the best bang for my buck, I ordered a regular crust, spicy red sauce, vegan cheese, and every veggie topping on their board. I held up the line a little as the helpful staff member gingerly added all their veggie toppings. From peppers to olives to pineapple, I had it all. When they hauled my pizza off to the oven, I worried it might come out soggy after all the fresh veg released water, but to my delight it, was perfectly crispy and delicious. Not only was my pizza great, but I had more than enough to make lunch for the next day. It feels like the folks at Blaze expect this, because you can easily find their take away boxes by the drink machines.
The interior of Blaze Pizza fits very well with modern, clean, and bright restaurants of the times. There's a huge mural on the main wall, showcasing an image of a Little Rock bridge. For a chain restaurant, with locations all across the country, Blaze takes care to personalize their interior.
So, vegans and non-vegans alike, you will find something you love at Blaze Pizza. The prices are great, the portions are huge, and the ingredients are fresh. There are several places in town that now offer vegan cheese on their pizzas, but Blaze is definitely a new one to check out. Who doesn't love more pizza options?
