The Bernice Garden has announced the artists whose work has been chosen for the outdoor sculpture garden at 14th and Main Streets: Bre Harris, Joe Barnett, John Mark Van Horn, Kwendeche, and Terry and Maritza Bean. Their work, funded by grants from the Bernice Garden fund at the Arkansas Community Foundation, will be unveiled at a Fall Fest from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

The artists receive a $2,800 stipend and a $200 design fee for the model for their proposals. Anita Davis owns the garden, which is 50 feet wide by 57 feet long, and the adjacent historic properties on Main.

Trying to get a picture to preview what's going up. Bre Harris' sculpture pictured here is an example of her work. (She and husband David own Light and Time Design Studio, a foundry, in Royal.)

  • They want to do what?

It was jaw-dropping, the account of the House Republican's budget reported this morning (New York Times story here, Dem-Gaz here , both with nauseating photographs of a hee-hawing Rep. Paul Ryan) that would cut student loans, Medicare, food stamps AND lower the tax rate on the wealthy.
