The neighborhood won a $1,000 Love Your Block Challenge Grant to hire the artist. The mural should convey the "history, love and light of the Pettaway Neighborhood," which is east of Main and south of I-630, the call for artists says. The mural will incorporate ceramics designed by schoolchildren in the neighborhood.
Here's a link to the application. Deadline to apply is Sept. 5; the mural is to be completed by Nov. 30. Here's a flyer about the contest.
Individuals needing more information should come to the Annual Silver Senior Pettaway Community Festival on Aug. 25 at Pettaway Park (all day), visit the neighborhood blog at www.pettawayneighborhoodassociation.com or call Kwadjo Boaitey, Pettaway N.A. secretary, 501-786-4255; Carol Tabron, Pettaway N.A. president, 501-554-5954; or Maggie Hawkins, East Broadway Alert Center facilitator, 501-376-3406.
