The Washington Post's "The Answer Sheet" picks up Lisa Phillips' argument for why the arts are an important part of educational success.

What kids get from the arts that helps them in life, according to Phillips: Creativity. Confidence. Problem solving. Perseverance. Focus. Non-verbal communication. Receiving constructing feedback. Collaboration. Dedication.
Accountability.

And, oh yes — there is art for art's sake. This isn't news to the Thea Foundation, which is training teachers in Arkansas A+ arts-infused education, but there are some folks in the legislature who need to hear it. Pass it on.

Phillips is the author of The Artist Edge.
