Nichols' 'Take Shelter' to Ebertfest

Arkansas director Jeff Nichols' "Take Shelter" may have gotten roundly snubbed by Oscar this year, but it's not unappreciated by those who love good film. Evidence: Top critic and intellectual superman Roger Ebert has chosen Nichols' sophomore effort — about a man who begins building a bunker after a series of apocalyptic dreams about killer storms — as one of the fourteen films that will screen at this year's "Ebertfest" in Champaign, Ill. It's the second Ebertfest attendance for Nichols, whose film "Shotgun Stories" played there in 2008.

The festival runs from April 24 to April 29, with Nichols and "Shelter" star Michael Shannon in attendance.

Ebert recently took to his blog to explain the festival and why he chose this year's films, including Take Shelter. He shares the confusion of many fans over why Shannon didn't at least get a nomination for Oscar gold, writing: "This film struck me immediately as featuring one of the best performances of the year, and the failure of the Academy to nominate Shannon is an indication of the fairly narrow range of films it considers."
