Saturday To-Do: Flavor Flav

Posted By on Fri, Dec 14, 2012 at 9:01 AM

Flavor Flav will be at Discovery Nightclub Saturday.

FLAVOR FLAV
Late p.m./early a.m. Discovery Nightclub.

Is there a weirder, wilder figure in all of celebritydom than Flavor Flav? That's a biiiiiig "maybe."

Public Enemy's hype-man is one of the most recognizable musicians of the last 25 years, but for folks who weren't around for "911 is a Joke," he's probably known as much if not more from his reality TV antics, which started with the aptly titled "Surreal Life" and bore even weirder fruit on his own show, "Flavor of Love."

Lately, Flav's been opening restaurants, because of course he has. The newest location for Flavor Flav's Chicken & Ribs opened at Van Dyke and 15 Mile Road in Detroit. "Sterling Heights baby," he tweeted about the opening. According to promoter Mike Brown, Flav'll be performing tracks, doing some contests, signing autographs and partying at Discovery all night long.

  • New mixtape from Kari Faux, 'Laugh Now, Die Later'

    August 1, 2014
Happy Friday! Here is a new tape from Little Rock's young legend Kari Faux, who has been having an amazing year (her first tape, "Spontaneous Generation," came out in February — taken together, they're probably the best debut of the year). She is a true role model. Houston's Fat Tony shows up, as does her frequent collaborator BLACK PARTY. /more/
  • Little Rock's nannies target clubbing

    July 31, 2014
Some shift workers don't knock off work until 11 p.m. A night of fun that ends at 11 p.m. for someone who had a 5 p.m. quitting time would end at 5 a.m. for the shift worker who gets off at 11 p.m. Entertainment in those hours, after Waffle House and EZ Mart, is limited. And it will soon be more limited if some city directors have their way. /more/
  • This Week In Music (7/30 KABF Pledge Drive Edition)

    July 30, 2014
"Voice of the People" KABF 88.3 kicks off their pledge drive this weekend (through Aug. 16). Call them at (501) 372-6119 or pay them a visit at kabf.org and give them a few dollars because it would mean a lot. They would do the same for you, I'm willing to bet. /more/
  • New Juanita's owners promise bigger, better concerts

    July 29, 2014
Juanita’s, the venerable Tex-Mex restaurant and live music venue, has new owners. Four years after they purchased the restaurant and club, Joe Cates and Jim O’Brien have sold it to Erin Hurley, Trey Jordan, Reed Lewallen, Bill Puckett and James Snyder. The new group takes ownership of the space at 614 President Clinton Ave. Aug. 1. Upgrading the type of concerts the club hosts is one of the new group’s top priorities, according to Lewallen. /more/
  • Stream the new Chris Denny album, 'If The Roses Don't Kill Us'

    July 28, 2014
North Little Rock native Chris Denny, who was, as we wrote in May, "Arkansas's most promising musical talent for so long that he seemed destined to remain forever stuck on a "greatest that never was" list," made his triumphant return to Little Rock in June with a brief show at Juanita's. /more/
  • What we talk about when we talk about the Walmart AMP

    July 28, 2014
The monumental Rogers, Ark. music venue formerly known as the Arkansas Music Pavilion and recently renamed the Walmart AMP (or Walmart, for short), has a truly impressive and expensive lineup scheduled for the upcoming Fall, and they're adding more dates all the time. /more/
  • Watch Lucero's 'I'll Just Fall,' from 'Live in Atlanta'

    July 25, 2014
We mentioned earlier this month that Lucero had a huge, career-spanning live album, "Live from Atlanta," on the way in August, and now a few of the tracks are available to stream: "Sweet Little Thing," "Texas & Tennessee" and "Tears Don't Matter Much." Above, watch them play "I'll Just Fall," off 2002's "Tennessee," via the AV Club. /more/
  • This Week In Music (7/23 Arlington Hotel Edition)

    July 23, 2014
Little Rock's song of the summer now has a video, and it's better than any of us could have hoped, like DGainz meets DIS magazine. The fact that I've yet to hear this song on the radio here is a complete mystery. /more/

You've got to figure that a band from frozen-ass Winnipeg is just gonna be way gnarlier and tougher than a band from some sun-kissed tropical clime where people wear tank tops and flip-flops year-round.
